Front ports causing Reboots

It doesn't happen consistently, but I've noticed that sometimes when I start to plug something into the front usb/audio ports, the computer locks up with a black screen. It's weird, it doesn't even need to be fully plugged in, as soon as the metal touches, it freezes. I'm thinking it's some sort of electrical issue? I have no idea what would cause this to happen.

Is it possible that you have a front port accidentally wired to or shorting with a reset jumper? I'd recommend tracing the leads back to the mobo to be sure they are correctly plugged in.

Yea I just checked to see if there was anything intersecting or coming in contact where it shouldn't. Looks ok... I'm going to just try connecting the front to a different usb port, see if that works.

I had the same issue with my system. (In the middle of doing a system upgrade atm, so parts have changed).
At first I thought I had wired something wrong, but tracing everything back lead to nothing. Tried changing the USB header that I was using as well and that was also equally as fruitless. At last I hit upon the culprit, it was my case, somehow grounding out the USB / Front Audio.
Except that I have a P8P67 Pro in the case now and I'm not getting the same rebooting issue either.

I hate mysteries, so gonna slap my older board into my tech station and see under just what circumstances the darn thing reboots from plugging something into the USB headers / Front Audio.
