Is there anything wrong with my cpu?

Hello, I'm new to this website and a novice to overclocking.
These are my specs:
Asus P7P55D-E Pro
Intel core i7-870@2.93ghz
ocz gold 4gb 1600mhz
gygabyte GTX 570
Spinpoint F3 1TB
Coolermaster 690 2 advanced
windows 7 64-bit
XFX 850w core edition
artic cooling freezer 7 pro rev.2

So..since im new i used the asus turbo-evo program to try to overclock my cpu. I used the auto tuning- fast performance feature. The result was from base clock 2.93ghz to an overclock of 3.9ghz. I generally thought this was too high as my cpu cooler isnt made for this intensity (i think). So i lowered the BCLK manually to around 165 with a multiplier of 20 to get around 3.3-3.4 ghz. For some reason this made my computer freeze and i had to restart it. I tried it again and did the same thing but came up with a blue error screen mimi memory dump message. I then restarted it and reset everything to default, but the cpu speed has seem to dropped from 2.93ghz default to around 2.6-7ghz. I don't know why this is, maybe because it was damaged or i did something to change it, any advice to fix this or overclocking in the future would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hmmm... have you tried to reset with the motherboard jumper? make sure your computer is off and switch off/ unplug your power supply "PSU". move your jumper over on to pins 2-3 or about 10 sec then back to 1-2 and reboot.(I haven't used any E-Z OC utility but I've had wierd stuff after BSOD when overclocking.)Try that and let us know.

Getting started with overclocking can be found in the help guides on the site, good stuff. Great bit of need to know..... bits. here's some E-Z links There's lots to keep you going here though..

http://www.overclock.net/overclock.p...king-guide.htm

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ing-guide.html

Sounds to me like the utility may not have done it's job right but Maybe I should keep quiet since I don't have an i7 though...

someone going to blast me ?

By the way....

quoting mine self "make sure your computer is off and switch off/ unplug your power supply 'PSU'. move your jumper over on to pins 2-3 or about 10 sec then back to pin 1-2 and reboot."
Your motherboard manual will have specific's on this; location and where to move. Also pulling your "mobo" battery while it is off and unplugged should accomplish the same thing. Leave it out for a few seconds, 5-10, replace it, and reboot.

It makes your motherboard look to the CPU for what settings it needs to start; FSB speed, multiplier, voltage, etc. and It should reset your "mobo" back to run like it did before your BlueScreenOfDeath action.

my gigabyte software was terrible at OC'ing.
I had my i7 950 only to 3.8 and my temps were .approaching 95 c
the software took voltages way to high.
I haven't used an Asus mobo but if the gigabyte software was anything like it then you should really learn a few things and do your OC from the Bios as you will get way more control.
