Two GTX 580's or One GTX 590 Dual GPU? - Page 3

I actually did a similar test a while back with some older DX10 gpus and my results were that the dual-GPU card was slightly higher than the equivalent dual card setup. See here: 9800GX2 vs. 9800GTX SLI (at 9800GX2 clocks)

However, keep in mind there are a lot of factors that go into SLI setups (age of motherboard, chipset, does it have nForce 200, drivers, etc...). Perhaps on a newer motherboard with newer drivers I may have seen differently.

according to evga guy in this vid

skip over to 1:15

performance is just under gtx 580. So i think at this point just 2x 580 seems ideal

I'm sure you guys have seen the benches for 560's in SLI...
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...i-sli-review/7

Do dual GPU cards normally perform relatively the same compared to their SLI counterparts, or is it slightly less performance?

@ $500 dual 560's are a pretty great bang for buck right now. Plus, I'm sure 560's will drop a bit in price.

So, that means the dual GPU will likely be around $600 tops is my guess.

Wait.. so the dual GPU NVidia card will have 560 chips on there? With the guy in that video saying the card has 2GB of VRAM, I guess that must be the case. In that case, dual GTX-580s is the way to go... I was hoping for Quad SLI with two cards but with 580 or similar chips..oh well. it is still worth the wait to see how the 6990s perform against the 580s and the dual gpu 590/595... the 5970 destroyed the 480 in every... so the next month or so will be quite interesting...

The first video I posted he says "2GB of RAM - 1GB per each" and "the card will come out in two weeks".

Go further back in post page 2. The GTX 580's have 1.5GB per card so we eliminate that as a possibility.

It's either the GTX 560 or 570 and most of us are thinking GTX 560's but it's only speculation on which on it will be. We know one thing for sure it's not the GTX 580's.

Incrementally we can speculate it will be a dual 590 to complete the 560, 570, 580, and 590 series.

Happy gaming!

+1 my thoughts exactly. I'm willing to bet it's the 560 chips since the 570 runs with 1.28MB of RAM, plus from a power and heat point of view it makes more sense that it would be the 560.
