Oblivion uses <50% of GPU? - Page 2

The engine just isn't designed well to load all those textures in. It runs about like that on my rig too, with similar mods.

I'll try OCing the CPU. I just figured that, regardless of mods, it doesn't make sense that the GPU is not being stressed, but puts out a framerate that suggests that it IS stressed.

I think I'll just install on my friends computer. He has an intel i7 930 overclocked to 4.5 GHZ, and the same exact card and HD as mine. If it performs better on his system, then I know that my CPU is most likely to blame. Thanks for your help, Pyra rep+

with the mods off, does Oblivion utilize more than 50% of your GPU?

Agree.

There you go, mods take a chunk of performance. That Qarl pack is supposed to be really intensive to use and I can only imagine about the other mods and how well they work together. I'm not exactly sure why only 50% gpu though. You could try ocing as you mentioned but not sure if you'll see a difference :/

Ya know its funny. I've had this happen before with all SORTS of games. A framerate hiccup or series of hiccups equates to a smaller use of GPU performance. I've also had games where it wont use all of the GPU and the framerate is low which makes no sense to me. And thirdly I've had other games where it is chugging along at high nineties in percent usage and then it hiccups and *bam* the framerate drops permanently and the GPU is stuck at only using like 75% percent. The game wont recover until I restart.

The only explanation I've ever had was an unstable overclock. I guess it doesn't help. But I just wanted you to know you're not alone.

I don't think the overclock is unstable... I was able to OC pretty high without artifacts in unigine and furmark benchies, but settled on an OC profile with core voltage from 1025 to 1087, core/shader from 625/1250 to 775/1550 and mem clock from 1701 to 1775. I have the stock clocks on another profile, and can switch between with a hotkey. Either way, I get identical (under-)performance with oblivion.

It's weird that my laptop with a Radeon 4570 (the one with 512MB DDR2 memory) and core2duo 2GHz accesses more of the GPU. It runs at medium in-game settings with no graphics mods at playable speeds (28-60+ FPS) and utilizes more GPU; peaks at ~80%. I think it might be the engine, since that is the only thing the two systems have in common. I doubt my desktop is suffering from a HD bottleneck since my laptop only has a 5400RPM drive.

Oh well, it's definitely playable and beautiful, and smooth most of the time on my desktop. Can't argue with that

Someone once suggested to me unstable RAM with some of my problems. I dunno but I figure I'd throw it out to you.

I have used Streamline before but I was never happy with it..

Anyways I really don't know the inner workings of Streamline except it's a stutter remover/lag reducer and cell purger etc.

I use OSR (Oblivion Stutter Remover)

Now with OSR its default settings Set the Min and Max Fps very low:

Default Min :10
Default Max :30

With Default settings GPU usage is very Low maybe around 25-34%

When You change the settings higher (Example) :

Min : 30
Max : 70

The GPU usage raises to around 65%

If You change them higher the GPU Usage goes higher and Yes You can peg 99-100% on Oblivion when You change the settings high enough.

I know the Streamline is supposed to increase Your average framerate but sometimes these things especially in oblivion dont always work as they should (too many Mods, Computer configs, Hardware etc.) just like streamline never really worked how it should for me.

In the end if Your Happy with how your Game Plays and Performs and it Smooth then don't worry about GPU usage.

I run a lot of mods on mine and through OSR I keep the GPU usage around 65%... It's all on Preferences

I have all the streamline features turned off, except for "Streamsight" which is just a FOV adjustment that doesn't mess with the menus.

I doubt that's the problem here. That would affect more than just Oblivion. I should upgrade anyway, but the next time I buy anything it will be a new mobo/cpu. My system started out as a pre-built "gaming" PC, and I have upgraded little by little since I bought the computer 2 years ago. The MOBO is a pain though, the SATA connections are in the way of my graphics card, and there's only one PCI-E slot.

What does it matter that the GPU usage is below 50%?
The game doesn't need your GPU to go higher than 50%.
Do you get upset when your CPU usage is less than 10% when opening your internet browser?
