[Hexus] Intel appoints rap star ‘director of creative innovation’ - Page 2

Wow. From the looks of this it would appear that intel has too much money to burn. Common intel sell me unlocked high end procs for 200$ instead of paying that goon.

This is epic fail.

It's akin to paying Eminem millions in a multi-year deal at Sirius Satellite for bringing along 25,000 subscribers worth some $3M a year in revenues.

It's just bad business. Little/no ROI.

That is true, however what you want in your beliefs is consistency and coherency.

Intel is no charity but what business is?

Intel should quit paying celebrities to be figureheads. That's what CEOs and board members are for in a corporation.

Paying will.i.am to be an "innovator" in technology is like paying Bill Gates to be a ballerina...some might think it's cool or funny, but everyone knows there's just something terribly wrong with that sort of business decision.

Would make more sense if they had hired Pharrell. Or better yet Deltron 3030, maybe then he'd finish the new album.

Either way, I don't get marketing sometimes, and I'm pretty sure marketing doesn't get it's audience most of the time.

There was a time when a product, regardless of what industry it came from stood its ground on the merits of its own value. You want to sell a car, you spoke about, it's reliability, solid build, fuel economy, speed, etc, etc. Now, you drape Megan Fox on the hood of it, and it will sell, even if it doesn't have tires and it's a 2 cyclinder under the hood.

Intel, in this move, is catering to what it feels will sell it's products best. And all it needs do in reality is drop the prices on its products, making them dollar for dollar competitive with AMD. And if it does feel it has to have a front man, perhaps making a better choice would help. Hell, Data from ST would have been loads better.

Marketing tactics make me lol. Also I'd have respect for this guy if he went by a real freaking name, what a joke. It's just as bad as artists with 1 name, he should go join Sting and have a hay day full of fruit punch and monkeys in a barrel.

In not one part of this article did I see the word "commercial" or "public advertisements" in this article not once. It sounds like their hiring him as a liaison to make sure whatever Microsoft plans to put out in the future as far as entertainment devices are concerned, serve the generation they're geared towards. This is no different to me than HP getting Dr. Dre to help them market laptops they want to push towards independent producers. It sounds like rock solid logic to me. Isn't this what people wanted in the first place? For big companies to get advice from people that actually use their stuff in a everyday environment?

Reading these post, all I see is a bunch of people attacking an artist for every reason,e except a valid one.

I wonder how different this conversation would be, if it were Daft Punk they hired, and not Will.I.Am.
