Is this a good upgrade?

Hi,

I currently have a GeForce 9800 GTX+

I want to upgrade, and I was wondering if the GTX 460 768mb was worth it.

I'm on a pretty tight budget, and it's $140 on TigerDirect.

So, would a GTX 460 768mb be a good upgrade?

Thank you

Hey man, i say go for it. A friend of mine recently went from a 4850 to a GTX 460 768mb and he's very happy with his purchase. They scale so well in SLI it's unbelievable.

The GTX 560 just came out as well, if you can dish out the extra cash i'd go with that. But either way, you'll be more than happy with either of them.

What res are you running? If you're at 1440 x 900 it would be perfect for you.

hmm I don't know enough about the 460 to answer that. I suggest doing some research. check out some benchmarks, vidz, etc.

But i have a hunch you would be just fine with it. even at 1600x1200. Just look into it like i said. Or hold off until you can afford something a little better.

What games do you play?

GTA4, Bad Company 2, TF2, Oblivion, Metro 2033

Also wondering if it would be any good to stream games with (though I'm sure that's more CPU)

you'll be pushing it at that res that is ONLY if you want to max out all the games but of those you mentioned, metro 2033 you won't be able to max out at your res. gtx 460 can max out almost all games at 1920x1080

A 460 would definitely be a huge upgrade from a 9800GTX+ (2 generations newer)
It's a very good card, but realistically, don't expect to max everything out with it (as in max shadows/shaders/16xaa/af/etc...). as it's still the lower-end/budget model of the 400 series. Some are GREAT overclockers though and will allow you anywhere from 100-200mhz o/c at least on most cards. Not too pricey either, most are in the $150 range, with some custom ones around $200 (but at that price point, might as well pay an extra $30 and get a GTX470).
