Talk about the same bs over and over.
If I listen to a song on the radio is the producer losing money?
If I accept a mixtape from a friend am I a Pirate?

Exposure is good for bands. Most people download songs they never would of heard of or even bought in the first place.

Don't even try to start with record labels = music quality. You obviously know very little about what "good" music is and what makes it.

No, they get paid for that.

Exposure =/= download all songs/albums

Without money one can't afford to produce quality songs, i.e. indie or small label producers...

There's no justification for piracy, and that goes for all business.

Apple will give the winner the $10 000 credit(Which is worth less than you think) and go through the normal purchasing process. With a $10 app, apple probably takes $9 and gives $1 for royalties. So in reality they lose a lot less money, and not to mention even $10 000 is nothing compared to the margins all their other products make. One less ivory back scratcher for steve jobs

I really don't understand how producer loses money when you a person the song from limewire or w/e was not going to pay money for em in the first place.

But your right, its totally important to sign and support those multi million contracts to justin bieber and lady gaga. Where would all the good music go Not supporting those labels would mean less exposure meaning less reality shows and less justin beiber tv shirts for all!

If piracy didn't exist, I'm sure a LOT of people would start buying the music. Sometimes people are just plain lazy.

@justin bieber and lady gaga: those are exceptions where I don't mind if people pirate their music they already got loads of cash for talent they might not have, thanks to publicity

That's a lot better than nothing.

As a person who constantly gets telemarketers and scammers on their cell I can probably see myself doing the same thing if they didn't mention who they were at first. "I won a sweepstakes I never heard of and don't remember entering? Yeah, sure I believe you..."

@PoopaScoopa:

There are musicians that don't normally tour so a majority of their revenue is from album sales. And most of the time songs on the radio and tours are to support their album rather than be a single source of income. Do you think the artists make a majority of their income from concerts and merchandise than from albums? With stage workers, the security, the rental of the venue, who ever produces the merchandise, who sells the merchandise, who distributes the tickets, etc. there are layers there as well.

People shouldn't let their taste in music and their opinion of who should get money be a justification for them to download music. In the end it should be up to the artist to give you permission to download their album at no cost. If you don't like the artist why are you downloading their album in the first place.

Indie bands would be a lot better suited if you bought their merchandise and went to their concerts. They get paid pennies on every album sold. Which do you think actually supports them?

Having a friend share an album with you over the internet is no different than borrowing a friend's cd. Get over it.
