Noise, noise, so much noise - and temp, help with SB Setup!

Hello guys,

I configured my system with the belief that it would be sufficiently cool and mostly quiet.

You can see my system in my signature, the important parts are:

1) Prolimatech Super Mega with two Prolimatech Blue Vortex, 1000rpm in Push-Pull Config

2) ASUS 6950 Graphics, Stock-Cooling Solution (unlocked if that matters)

3) Fractal Design Define R3 - supposedly a semi-silent case, as it has decent airflow but also some noise absorbing material, comes with a front and one rear fan, running at 1350rpm.

4) Seasonic X-660, semi-passive PSU

The system is overall too noisy for me, can someone guesstimate what component may be the culprit? I do not seem to be able to make it out with my ear. I am also not very impressed with the CPU cooling power I have right now - can someone suggest different fans for the CPU cooler that are both more powerful but not too noisy in Push-Pull?

Thanks alot in advance!

The 6950s are your culprit, they are pretty loud, also if you unlcoked depending on what bios you flashed it changes the fan profile making the fan spin faster to compensate for the higher clock speeds, trust me i know read my sig, lol

Hah, ok then I will see what (if anything) can be done about that.

How about the Cooler fans? What are the strongest fans in terms of cooling that remain somewhat silent? (a little over 20db I guess?) Are there any recommended fans?

The ones I have now, I should add, are the 140mm fans by prolimatech:

The fans you have are only 18db i think, they are really quiet already. staying under 20 and still cooling really well on air is sorta a daunting task as there are so many variables, ambients, heatsink, airflow, etc.

Theres not going to be much out there thats better then what you have for the sound especially if you wanna stick with 140mm fans. If you wanted to go 120mm then i would say get GT AP-14s or NB-Multiframe M12-S2 as they both would be better then your current fans and will still maintain a 20bd and under sound profile

Could be those stock case fans , good thing to do is get one of those cling film, or tin foil rolls and put it to your ear, point it in the direction of the fans GPU PSU , you´ll soon hear which one is the guilty culprit.
You could try changing your GPU fan speed to manual. (watch your temps) and maybe picking up a fan controller.

The case is almost dead silent unless theres a bum fan in it.

He unlocked his vid card so dropping the fan speed down is not recommended, this is because he is no longer running factory clocks its equivalent to like a 20% overclock

The only other thing i can say is the power supply uses a silent series san ace fan wich if im not mistaken is 25+db if you have a decent load on your power supply and the fan is kicking up that can be what your hearing also along with the vid card.

The vid cards have i higher pitch tone to them making then more audible and noticeable though.

Before i watercooled my unlocked 6960s they were louder then 12 GT AP-15s running at full speed just to give you an example.
