PC gives me a means of repairing issues i come across. It also allows me to enjoy games with better visuals, and primarily, most titles are moddable. I'm also able to do more productive things other than gaming on my PC.

I don't consider any of this generation of "consoles" real consoles anyway, i call them media hubs, and these media hubs are too buggy for my liking..trying to be something they're not. The PC is leaps and bounds ahead.
MMm this is invalid mate, as PS3 YLOD is fairly low now and 360 RROD is almost ghost stories now. That maybe would of worked a year ago, but not now mate.

Console gaming is cheaper, but PC gamers won't admit it. I will though, if you think of ways to save, its heck of a lot cheaper. PS3 = $300, GameFly = $15 a month, get 2 games at a time, keep how long and whenever. Even keep that Black Ops MP until the new CoD game comes out, save $60 on a single disc.

SO yes its cheaper. As PC games are reaching the 60$ mark now-a-days, there really is no comparison. $500 GFX card, compared to $300 all in one. Plus going Sandy Bridge is $500 required anyways, so yes. Still cheaper.

Now im sure people on OCN will knit pick at me and say how they bought all this and that for the price of 1 PS3 game. But sorry, were not counting STEAM sales here people. Thats pretty clear and cut, we don't need the sarcastic smartwannabe kids coming in here saying "NAH UHHH PC IS CHEAPER, LOOK AT STEAM, LOOK WHAT I BOUGHT DURING XMAS SALE"..

Yet... a sale is not all the time kids...

Honestly PC is the only platform that games I enjoy are made on and if a game is released for both PC and Console, even console ports look better on PC.

Anyway, I still love the FF series so I always have to have a PlayStation regardless. TBH, I would suspect the majority of people on this site have owned a PS3, 360 or Wii sometime in the last 5 years.

Console gaming can get more expensive over time.
It may look cheap but it's not.

But if you get yourself a PC you will always be finding yourself buying new stuff for it (It's a uncontrollable urge for most PC gamers).

I have consoles & a Gaming PC.
I mainly use Xbox Live for chatting to all my buddy's.

TBH I don't think there's really much difference in the overall costs between the two.

Look at it this way, most people who own a console, also own a PC anyway for day to day use. An entry level PC+Monitor is going to run at least $400 USD.

Considering you can build a fairly high-end performance pc for 1k or less, you're only really spending $500-600 more for a gaming rig. Subtract the $300 dollar price tag on a console and now the gap is down to $200-300 dollars.

Then there's the price of the games. Between Steam and D2D sales, you can really stretch your money here. I picked up The Witcher, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Far Cry 2 And Batman: AA for $44.95 total last month. Granted you can't really resell PC games like you can with consoles, but in most cases you'll be hard pressed to get half of what you paid back.

Depending on your gaming habits, all in all it may break even.

Something you overlook is the cost of your HDTV for your console as well. And you don't NEED a $500 GFX card, and you don't NEED SB to PC game. If you're going to compare the 2, don't try to say it's not ok to bring up RROD's YLOD's, but then say you have to use top end components to game on PC.

my pc is my home theatre, hooked up to the TV via HDMI, nice 1080P res, 5.1 pioneer surround sound(this is like a 10 yr old surround sound system btw) sounds great, looks great, and yes i have an xbox 360...it collects more dust than i spend time playing it, why you ask? i simply enjoy my pc more, id love to see you make an attempt to play Civ 5 on xbox 360, youd probably crash the console, all consoles are limited, and very old tech compared to a low end pc today, and im not joking, a pc with an old ATI 4890 and 2GB of ram still kicks a console's arse, because console's have tech from late 2004 to early 2005 in them, limited ram and processors, oh and if i peel the shiny sticker off and mod it they ban me from online play, and void my warranty even though im probably fixing thier problems for them, ok microsoft, ill go use my pc instead, tell me not to mod a game now >.>

Steam counts. Christmas sale games count. They have specials year round too.

There are more PC games that people can happily play for months or years on end. Sure, a lot of people hate MMOs, but a lot of PC gamers play them.

The initial cost can be higher, but I like having a perfectly built for me PC, that I can upgrade. It also costs more because it does more.

Really though, I think it comes down to what kind of games you play, and for how long. For some, consoles are way cheaper. Buy your console of choice and play CoD until the next one comes out? Pretty cheap. Build a PC that can comfortably play WoW, play that for years on end, very cheap.

These are examples, don't hate on the games I chose.

PC gaming, even WITHOUT ANY GAMES, is cheaper.

Xbox 360 plus a decent TV will run you around $900.

Anyone on this forum can show you how to build a decent (Crysis-medium/low) computer, for playing TF2 or most modern games, for around $600 to $800.

Now of course, there is the immediate cry of "HOLD IT, hold it! A TV doesn't count. Everyone has a TV anyway; that doesn't factor into it." Just to clarify, this changes the rules so we CAN work with household items that most people own. And just to remind you...most people own a computer.

Generally, any desktop bought in the last 5 years is pretty close to being a gaming computer; the CPU is normally adequate for at least most games, it just needs a better GPU and more memory. If you get one of the midrange cards, then this will total you under $200, quite possibly around $160. This is LESS than the cost of ALL consoles.

PC gaming, even WITHOUT ANY GAMES, is cheaper. And then we get into Steam sales...(there is no reason not to include them. They exist, and they're not just at Christmas. Plus, if you shop around, you find deals on other Digital Distribution sites as well)

Things to acquiesce about this argument:
A. A lot of people are idiots and buy laptops that they leave in one place, sitting in the charger, and never move. These cannot be upgraded.
B. Some computers people have today are too old to be modified into gaming rigs.
C. Some people are daunted by the task of upgrading a computer. Understandable, though I find hooking up the A/V cables of a console to be just as complex (that is to say, not very. You buy something, and there's only one slot where it fits)

As a previous poster said PC people, like myself, never stop buying new bits for their rig, at least with the console there is nothing to add on.

I think honestly if you built a PC, specifically for gaming, and then attempted to make it just better than a PS3 as far as computing/graphical power you could find PC cheaper in the long run because games are cheaper, especially when you consider PC games go on sale faster.

Obviously though PC lets you go crazy so no 3x580s with (3)2560x1600 monitors is not cheaper than a PS3 and a discount 720p set from best buy.
