Is console gaming really cheaper? - Page 12

Usually, digital distribution sites have sales making things much cheaper.
Steam, Impulse, Gamer's Gate, Direct 2 Drive, etc.

Also, many games come down in price permanently after they've been out for a while. It just goes to show that retailers care mostly about day-one sales.

so yess buying games for pc is cheaper but unless your buying a new game every day the $10 difference isnt gonna do much good.

my opinion
/facepalm

I wonder if I should just say a bunch of impolite things, and then make it all ok by saying "just my opinion."

It is irrelevant because pretty much everyone will already have a TV in their house which they can connect their console to, and if you don't already have a TV (maybe you're poor or something) then you can buy a standard definition 22 inch TV to play on, you don't have to pay for an expensive TV.
A real gamer is someone who's devoted to their passtime, doesn't matter what the medium is.

And by no means does everyone already have a TV. I know this is hard to understand but not everyone just magically has a TV in their house, most people I know skipped on buying TVs because there's no need of one.

And "you don't have to pay for an expensive TV" Yea just like you don't HAVE to pay for an extravagant gaming PC either. PC games have this magical feature to them where you can scale the graphics up and down to meet your desires.

Well you can play on a console connected to the same monitor that would be used to play on the PC with through a HDMI cable so it's really not something to take into consideration.

I think it's safe to say that probably, the initial purchase of a PC gaming system may be a bit more expensive than it's console rival.

But long term, i believe the PC system would in the end not only pay for itself because of its many other uses, but also work out cheaper because of the low price of PC games.

I'm also reminded of a quote from this forum, i believe it was:

"Consoles are a means to an end; PC's are a journey"

I think this is very true.

Both cost the same if you have equivalent quality parts to each system. A high end gaming rig will run you around $5,000+ (high end, not mediocre. Tri sli/ 4 way sli and the works with just OK monitors) along with a decent surround setup like a logitech z5500. A high end home theater system will cost just as much, figure $2000+ for the tv and another $2000+ for a truly quality surround system like klipsch. They scale about equally. You can do a midrange pc build for around $2500 and compare the experience almost equally with a midrange home theater setup for the same money. Games should look better on a good pc, but sound is another thing. Most people don't have a quality surround setup for their pcs which is a huge part of the experience.

If a household lacks a PC and has $299 extra (+$15/mo)laying around their first priority should be getting a PC which is essential for general productivity and internet.

The end of the TV is looming, as more and more people opt to watch their favourite shows on the internet, or watch youtube instead of paying $100/mo cable bill and HD TV and being subjected to commercials and pre - recorded shows that fail to accurately reflect their interests The interractive entertainment replaces the need to watch pre - recorded enacted events, people would rather read articles online, to get to the meat of the information and skip the commercials as well as read other user's comments and communicate with their peers.

One of the big factors in crapsole over abundance is the staggering amounts being spend by MS and Sony toward marketing their inferior, and useless product, with crapsole gaming being trumpeted at every tv and traditional media and distribution channels such as best buy and gamestop over - saturated with their product and advertising.

I have some idea that can help to save PC gaming though, but it's for another thread.
