Is console gaming really cheaper? - Page 3

when you buy a console, your over-paying for long obsolete tech. why pay a premium price on something the was obsolete before it even hit the stores.

Probably, yeah.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of a decent sized HDTV too though. They can be more than some gaming PCs.

No I will say what I wanted to say, Don't tell me I can't say something. What I said also links to what others have said, with a PC, your always upgrading something, bit by bit, With a console, your are not, same with your HDTV.

Of course you dont need SB + 580 to game. But following what everyone else said, and just what PC gamers do, ya.. It relates and links.

People need to stop telling people what to do on OCN, where this is a forum, place for discussion, and most important, its all in our own personal opinions. I think you forgot that aswell.

Console gaming is cheaper, but PC gamers won't admit it. I will though, if you think of ways to save, its heck of a lot cheaper. PS3 = $300, GameFly = $15 a month, get 2 games at a time, keep how long and whenever. Even keep that Black Ops MP until the new CoD game comes out, save $60 on a single disc.

SO yes its cheaper. As PC games are reaching the 60$ mark now-a-days, there really is no comparison. $500 GFX card, compared to $300 all in one. Plus going Sandy Bridge is $500 required anyways, so yes. Still cheaper.

Now im sure people on OCN will knit pick at me and say how they bought all this and that for the price of 1 PS3 game. But sorry, were not counting STEAM sales here people. Thats pretty clear and cut, we don't need the sarcastic smartwannabe kids coming in here saying "NAH UHHH PC IS CHEAPER, LOOK AT STEAM, LOOK WHAT I BOUGHT DURING XMAS SALE"..

Yet... a sale is not all the time kids...
its not always cheaper. your factoring in all the bells and whistles that come in a pc. and you didnt mention that pc's do much more than gaming. which is why they cost so much. you can build a cheap gaming rig that outperforms any gaming console AND does much more.

for intstance: a broke colleg student has come into a little bit of money right. now he wants to get a gaming system of some kind, but he also needs a new computer for college. buy a cheap lap top and an xbox on top of that? no, you build a gaming rig. see what im saying. if you are in need of a computer already for other stuff, it would make since to use it as your primary gaming platform.

buying a nice computer for gaming has ways of being justified. buying a overpriced peice of obsolete tech like a ps3 or xbox 360 can not be justified.

Steam sales and clearance bins are the great equalizers. A PC may may cost an extra $400-600 over PS3/360 Elite, but throw down ~$250 on games one holiday season and you've made back the extra costs of the PC and then some.

This is a fair point, everyone needs a PC, so I think you should definitely subtract the cost of the PC you would use if you never gamed from what you paid for your gaming Rig.

So if you would pay $1000 for a non-gaming rig and it takes $500 to add in gaming, then your gaming portion of the rig was only $500

and from a pure gaming standpoint, not a computer enthusiast stand point, computers are cheaper for gaming. plain and simple. not everyone upgrades there components every 6 months. and not everyone went out a bought a sandy bridge.

a cheaper core 2 and a half way decent video card. theres no reason to spend thousands on a pc if it is only to be used for gaming.

i built my computer mostly for gaming, and i know its a bit of overkill. but keep in mind i do alot of h.264 encoding with x264. the i7 shaves lots of time off these encodes.

The upgrade urge is indeed present in the pc enthusiast, I know all to well!, haha.

That said, when I was primarily a ps2 gamer like 5-6 years ago, i spent a fair bit of money on upgrades, i got a headset for socom, multitap, extra controllers to play multiplayer tiger woods (amazing fun party game, very compatible with drinking and easy to teach chicks). Then i bought the component cable for better picture, and I kept buying games.

I had 3 PS2 die on me because Sony used a cheap laser in the DVD drive. They stopped reading DVD and CD's. A PS3 died on me because of the cheap Bluray drive. I got RROD on 2 different early Xbox 360's.

Console = cheaper parts that fail quicker.
