6850 cf vs 6970

Thread Starter
just wanting some input, debating a 6850 CF setup...total cost 330$ vs a single 6970 card...350$...to the best of my knowledge the CF 6850's scale in most applications to outbench a single 6970 durastically, this is an eyefinity gaming rig so factor that in also...then i know theres the constant debate of futureproofing but to be honest i'm a bang for your buck kinda guy and when i upgrade i'll still be a bang for your buck guy lol...i just have a hard time thinking a single card solution is better than a cheaper/better preforming multi card solution...your thoughts?

2 6850s are a very good option. They tend to outperform the 6970 by some amount, and should do well in Eyefinity setup (although the 6970 has 2GB of vram). Check this out for a comparison between the 2.

If it was me, I would get the single card because even three monitors dont need that much power, but if you feel like its necessary, you seem to know your stuff

Get a HD 6950 and unlock it. Thats 300$. As far as performance they are actually not very far off. If let say HD 6970 get 50fps in a game CF HD 6850 gets 60fps. Its 20% but also comes to price of not working all the time, more problems as its CF and less RAM for high resolutions.

Two drunken teenagers in CF won't beat one marine.
Like this all the time, except in teenager's mind.

More powerful single card graphics setup are always more reliable. You won't get microstutter or have issues with crossfire compatibility in games.

hmmm my last build ran 2x gts 450's...i was debating a gtx 460 vs that...went with the cheap SLI cards and was rather impressed...i know CF has its quirks but relative to the 6XXX series...CF is as good as SLI from what i read...on that note, yes the micro-stutter is annoying but a 300FPS rating in SC2 makes my **** hard lol

i mean...idk...seems like some of you guys think the 6850 is a dinnasaur...**** i cant even spell that anymore...the 6850 is still better than the widely used gtx 460...256bit card...1gb ram...i mean by itself its probably best bang/buck card out right now...CF just sounds so tempting

ok so last video related question...i ordered 2x 6850's for CF, now...i'm wondering would it be worth my while to purchase a higher end card, lets call it a 6970, in the future...to use as a physx controller, not even sure you can do that with CF...i know SLI u can

Never use an ati card for a physx controller... a gts 450 would do a much better job!
