My general rule of thumb is buy the most single card you can with your budget. Then, when you get the itch to upgrade again or need more horsepower, buy another one on sale or used down the road. That said I'd get the 6950 2GB and unlock/OC it.

I bought two MSI R6850's when COD BO came out. the drivers didn't work on my rig for crossfire. A month or so later they fixed it, not to mention COD programming had issues too. so who knows.

My gaming rig is in a HTPC case so I had limited room. I came from a 3-way trifire set up with 3 HD4830's. The 6850 was about the same size so the two fit perfectly. the power consumption is relatively low. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

The best part about the 6850 is it's overclocking capability. not mentioned much but it overclocks to a approximately the speed of a 6870 with no problem. I would say that a single 6850 gpu would run Black Ops with no problems but I like to sync my frames and the crossfire keeps my FPS minimums to just above 60fps 99% of the time. 1920x1200 all maxed out.

the best part is that you can buy a single 6850 now and add another anytime. Remember that most newer games make use of quad core cpu's. so buy smart and prevent a bottle neck.

if you don't like it, there is always ebay- to unload it.
