Then clean your system first, then install new drivers. The crashing could be caused by an instability or incompatibility between drivers.

If sweeping your system doesn't work it could well be the drivers, otherwise it could be your system and you're blaming the drivers for nothing.
Cleaning old drivers to install new drivers isn't necessary. Plus, I'm not "blaming" the drivers. Why do you think I asked if anyone was having a similar problem in the first place

I played WoW earlier and after a few hours of gameplay the display driver crashed. I rolled back to 10.12 and everything has been fine again since.

Kind of disappointing.
So what is the lesson from this? Don't play WoW! Joking

It tells me that my drivers are 10.12, yes... Even after I installed 11.11. But yeah, most likely a registry string bug.
No it tells you Catalyst is 10.12, Catalyst is not the drivers themselves.

installing them now!

edit:
just installed. how do these differ from the 11.1a hotfix drivers? it looks like the drivers are the same but idk for sure.
I have not gamed in quite a while and would like to ask as a 4870X2 owner like the two of you, if we still see much for performance gains anymore with new drivers. I tend to always go for new ones just for the sake of new game support anyway, but thought I would ask just how much AMD still supports our now somewhat older cards.

rep will be added
Drivers are designed to be able to install over top of older versions unless otherwise stated. We do run into the odd troublesome driver that does not work well this way, but in general, we will save a lot of time just updating with the occasional clean install for troublesome ones vs worrying and clean installing every time we update.

People need to calm down and read. 10.12 is the Catalyst version NOT the driver version.
11.1a is newer than 11.1 (and it performs better for most people)

10.12a
Attachment 192472

11.1a
Attachment 192473

I ran 11.1 but didn't keep a snip because it was embarrassing (3000 odd)

Using a 5850 and doesn't happen to me. With 10.12 yes, but with 11.11a no.
