Cannot see in BIOS - But works in another PC

I have a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB disk, the disk has worked with no problems for about a year, but recently it stopped being recognised in my BIOS. I RMA'd the disk, and the disk i got back is a new disk, differant serial number but the same model and it too wont be recognised in my BIOS. I have had the same problem with another disk, a seagate one.

The disks work with no problem in another computer I have, but not in my main rig. I have tried differant SATA ports on the motherboard, but the same thing happens.

Will getting a SATA 2 PCI-E card solve the problem? Or would it be better to get a external disk enclosure?

have you got any other sata devices i.e another hdd/ cd-rewriter because ur sata controler on the mobo might be dying, or you could change the sata cable, seems to fix all the sata related problems at my college

try plugging a working drive into the questionable computer, it might the sata controller is dead or something.

While it is likely that the PCI-E card would be an effective workaround I would not do that until I figured what went wrong. It isn't like it never worked and when things stop working that worked before that is something that needs to be sussed out.

You know it is not the drive because it works elsewhere. That only leaves BIOS corruption or SATA controller degradation as a likely cause. You could flash the BIOS especially good if there is an update available (coulda been buggy) to rule it out.

More likely the controller has overheated. It remains to be seen if the damage is temporary or permanent. You can get little copper stick on heatsinks to improve the cooling on most sizeable chips and if Southbridge isn't cooled, cool it. If your controller is built into a Nortbridge chip make sure the fan still works and that the thermal paste hasn't dried out.

Best I can offer off the top of my head right now. Hope it helps.

Domki drewniane, domki letniskowe sprzedaz - Poznan - Wielkopolska.
Warto, wiec pomyslec o namiocie, albo wyszukac oferty domki drewniane sprzedaz wielkopolska.
