Help with new 2.1 speaker choice

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
I am in the market for a new set of speakers, I have a set of JVC HA-RX900 headphones that I use but I want to replace the cheap Creative speaker set that I have had for years, which I find myself using more than the headphones lately.
Now after doing a little reading I know that I do not want another mediocre set of speakers, Logitech etc. I would like a 2.1 set-up, I have no interest in 5.1 as it would be a waste for my uses.
My main uses for the speakers are going to be for watching TV shows, movies and a little gaming.
I started this thread just to get some opinions or advice on the following set ups;

M-Audio Studiophile Av40 - 2.0 I know, I have heard about the lack of bass and I don't really want to buy a separate subwoofer.

Harman Kardon Soundsticks III - Look kind of odd but seem to have excellent reviews.

TEAC LSW300 - I cannot find any information on this set, so I have no idea if they are junk, hopefully somebody can tell me if the specifications are any good? Link

I am in no way an audiophile, but a quick browse on this forum shows a huge knowledge base for good sound, so I may as well ask and get the best for my money.

Edit - budget up to £250

Remember, Logitechs have "excent reviews" also

Ok, thanks for the heads up.

Since you dont want to add a sub, the AV40 is out of the picture since you want a 2.1 setup. Id probably go with Klipsch Promedia.

Not a choice I'm afraid, hard to come by in the UK, how do the specifications look on the TEAC LSW300, I am trying to find out if they are overpriced garbage.

Audioengine 5! I fell in love with them on day one and I certainly wouldn't replace them with anything else in the same price range. It's 2.0, the sub is another $350 or so, but they are pretty punchy on their own!
