That quad rad on top is sick! I've seen it on some other builds and really like the sleek look. Your covers will be sweet to see finished too.

Update:

Quote:
So I've went ahead and purchased an XSPC RX240 from Dazmode for the start of the second loop for the GPUs. I'm still debating whether I want to wait forever and upgrade to the 500 series, then buy blocks, or just stick to my SLI'd 460s and buy blocks for those. Decisions decisions...

On a side note, I'm broke as hell hahaha

Quote:
I've been assured by DirectCanada that my fittings 'should' be on the way this week, so here's hoping I can at least set up loop one soon (...PUMP>RAD>CPU>NB>SB>REZ...).

Quote:
The CF wrap isn't in stock till Feb 8th, so I've been taking a beating on all aspects of shipping things to Canada, but I guess that's just life lol. Hopefully when that arrives I can give a more visual idea of the overall case-internal look. I've decided to use the wrap to cover up some of the case holes I don't need so I can make my own holes. I'll show you how it works out when the stuff arrives.

Quote:
Finally, I received the four standard black fan grills to put at the top of the Koolance shroud, and two 8-pin single-cable sleeved extensions (I was too lazy to make my own ). I'll have pics of that up later as well.
Thanks for now. Hopefully parts will roll in soon so this build can continue. For now... *grabs sheers and sheet metal, then retreats*

Very, very nice build. I almost didn't want to post this and interrupt your order, but I had to tell you how nice it looks so far. Probably by far the best mod I've seen to an 800D.

Will keep this subscribed for updates!

Update:

Quote:
Fan grills are installed. Nice to know I won't be getting my fingers caught on the top fans anymore .

Quote:
I bought a few terminal blocks and organized the fan wiring a bit. The above shot is of the bottom four fans routed to a terminal block in the pump cage/drive bay area.

Quote:
I also had time to route the top four fans to a terminal switch. I'll likely mount this to the back of the motherboard tray after I reinstall it. Sorry for the blurriness; my camera sucks.
That's it for now. I've decided to sell my two GTX 460s and get 570s instead. On the budget I have atm, I'll only be able to get one GTX 570 for now, and I'll work towards getting the other one later in the build . That's it for now. Expect another update once the bottom radiator and CF wrap arrive!

Out with the old and in with the new... Sold both my GTX 460s and purchased the first 570. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the other one soon enough. I'm still debating over buying the second card now, or just watercooling this one and holding out for the second one. IMO, it might be better to just setup watercooling on the one 570, and buy the second one later when prices change. We'll see....

Update:

The bottom radiator for the GPU loop finally arrived, so I took the time to install it...

Quote:
I installed the rad for loop 2 on the basement of the case. Pretty typical installation for most Obsidian 800D owners...

Quote:
Good fit, overall. Should have enough clearance. I'm looking at adding a fan on the non-windowed side panel to pull some air in on the bottom chamber. Alternatively, I could sneak some smaller fans on the front under where the drive bay slots used to go. Still deciding what will work best.

Quote:
Looks pretty good on the bottom. Defiantly a smudge off-center, but little enough that I can deal with it...
In regard to parts...

Quote:
I'm sort of tight on cash atm and really want to get this build towards something I can call done. To do so, I've decided to hold back on the second GPU and finish the watercooling loop for the first 570. Since it's just one block for now, I've ordered the EK-DCP 2.2 pump for the second loop.

Quote:
To make the whole build a bit more compact, I opted to just add the small reservoir onto the pump. I'll decide whether I want to opt for something more elaborate, like a bigger pump, later...
I bought some 90 degree fittings for the basement radiator, as well as some silver coil. Hopefully everything will arrive within the week. The first loop fittings have been shipped, so I should see those soon. Status on the CF wrap is unknown atm, so hopefully that arrives soon too. That's it for now!

Update!!!

So I finally received my Bitspower compression fittings, meaning I was able to do some of the work needed to prepare the WC layout. Because I'm NOW waiting on the CF Wrap (instead of the fittings... sigh), I'll be doing general layout and organization since the only step missing is laying down the CF Wrap...

Quote:
Enough fittings for me to do loop 1. I'll purchase loop 2 fittings once I set in stone what I'm going to do for the GPU loop.

Quote:
I waited so long just for these little pieces...

Quote:
I decided to layout some of the pump cage area since that's the easiest thing to setup atm. I had to make the tubing longer than intended to prevent kinking. I could have avoided it if I bought more angled fittings, but not only is that extra cash, but it's also not really necessary since no one will be able to see into the pump cage. On a side not, I rotated the terminal block powering the bottom four fans so it fit more snugly in there.

Quote:
All the molex plugs were connected to a plug (not yet connected to the psu; don't want to burn out the pump!) and tucked neatly behind it using some cable ties. From the front of the case it looks fairly organized, and this angle doesn't matter since it gets covered...

Quote:
...Like so! Since it's held by Velcro (maybe a screw or two depending on how I feel), I can access the cables in the back in case something goes wrong.

Quote:
I had to do a bit or rearranging on the back side panel to keep the tubing from kinking up. I ran the tubing through the pump cage door/hole in a crisscross way to help it bend the right direction, then used cable ties and anchors to run it up to the gap between the radiator without kinking. I shifted the SSD holder over a bit and moved the two cathode inverters to the lower area such that they could be connected where the hot-swap connectors go.

Quote:
Just a close-up on the pump door and the new positioning of the cathode inverters...

Quote:
Again, this whole area will be covered by a piece of sheet metal which will be either painted black or covered in CF wrap, depending on if I have leftover CF wrap after doing the internals.

Quote:
In regards to the internals, on the bottom tray separating the basement from main component area was altered a bit. I took one of the MB tray rubber guards and put it on the bottom tray under where the reservoir will be. That way the tube can run straight from the basement up into the bottom of the reservoir. The hole without this rubber guard on the mb tray will just get covered up with the cf wrap, as will the two holes here at the bottom as they serve no use to me.

Quote:
Just a quick shot of the terminal block powering the top four fans of the quad radiator. Velcro as always, so I can remove it easily any time.

Quote:
The tubing tucked behind the radiator runs to the other side of the case into the rad. Took a while to get it just right so it wouldn't kink and cut the flow, but some coiling and enough slack finally made it fit right.

Quote:
Bottom rad is pretty much set... I have to wait on the parts I ordered for the second loop (small pump and res, 90 degree fittings, etc.). I still need to order the GPU block, maybe a bit more tubing, and a few more compression fittings (actually in stock this time). I also bought two 6-pin single-braided PCI-E power extensions to make the GPU power not so boring.

Quote:
Finally, I have the EK-Supreme HF waterclock for my 1366 i7, and the NB/SB waterblock for my EVGA Classified x58 3-Way SLI mb.
I'm still waiting on the CF wrap now, which I ordered back on the 27th of January... Hopefully it'll arrive so I can put everything together and have a finished product. More to come so stay tuned! Feel free to send suggestions too!

Update:

So I decided to fill my system, bleed it, and run it as is for now until the cf wrap arrives (I emailed them twice and they've yet to respond. Poor customer service so far to be honest). I need the computer up and running again, and I'm willing to back track and disconnect it all when the wrapping stage is ready to commence. Besides, I'll consider it the equivalence of cleaning up the lines once I drain it.

Quote:
The traditional wade of paper towels... As usual, I started with a bit of a noob mistake and failed to properly fill the thing to full capacity the first time I thought I had it running. A lot of case shaking and rotation and I was able to get a lot of the air out, but there's still quite a few bubbles, so this will take a while... :

One little change I decided to make was to put the EK CPU block vertically because it routed tubing better. I used MX2 thermal compound for now, essentially because I'll be taking the loop apart later so I didn't want to waste my Indigo-Xtreme TIM yet. The motherboard block was secured using IC-Diamond TIM and 3M adhesive thermal interface pads. I'm most worried about the motherboard since I had such a painful time placing the acetal stands, but I'm pretty sure all is well. My computer parts have taken huge beatings from my stupidity in the past, and I'm sure they'll be fine this time through as well, water leaks aside .

Quote:
As you can see, lots of air. A bit of residue too, but I didn't flush the radiator, so that's expected. When I drain the system later, I'll give everything another flush of distilled water and then fill it up for the final time, after the cf wrap. I'm not a big fan of the UV light in the helix, so I might put a red or white cathode inside instead.

Quote:
Lots of paper towel... You can see how I chose to wrap the black tubing in the red spray-painted coils. Some of it marked up the black tubing a bit, so I'll have to spend some time later cleaning up the black tubing and polishing it up a bit to look better.

Quote:
Regarding the basement compartment, I'll leave it open for now, without the tray, at least until the cf wrap arrives. You can see on the right that the small EK DCP-2.2 pump + mini-reservoir arrived, and I placed them right between the PSU and the bottom radiator for the best fit. It's pretty full down there, so I'll have to be a bit fancy with the fittings to make sure there's no tube kinking.

Quote:
A close-up on the small basement pump. I'm glad I picked the smaller one of the EK pumps since it barely fits to begin with, though I'll likely play around later with the idea of putting another D5 in the build when I have more than one GPU block to worry about. There's a silver coil inside the reservoir as well, so second loop is well on it's way.

Quote:
As I already kind-of mentioned, the EK pump and res arrived today in their shiny packages. One screw for the res was clearly not milled properly, so I had to improvise there, and will likely be emailing EK to see if they can send me another, just in case the 'best I could do' job for screwing in the poorly milled screw doesn't work and starts to leak.

Quote:
Finally, I got my two 90 degree fittings for the bottom area. I have a good idea where they'll need to go. I need to get some compression fittings and 90-degree fittings, as well as the gpu block, but that will have to wait till loop 1 is done and I get an idea of how best to route the tubing to the gpu without creating a big mess of tubes. Might consider using an EK SLI bridge as my routing option and plug the holes for now until I get the second SLI card. Lots of options so I'll see what works best.
That's it for now. No leaks so far over the last 10 hours, but I'll let it run the night to be safe about it. Once I'm sure I've bled the system of all air, I'll run the components and see if I broke anything placing that nb/sb block on the motherboard tray . Other than that, it's nice to see the WC system actually running, and all parts seem to be working. Considering adding a flow meter in the pump cage just to get an idea how flow is working, but that'll have to wait for loop 2 first...

Update:

I have the system up and running, so all seems well so far. Haven't don't anything besides running instances of CPU Burn to make sure everything is working. Temperatures seem reasonable, and I'll post some once I finalize the build. CFWrap.com finally got back to me about stock and are shipping it today, which works for me as I'm looking forward to finalizing this build and moving on to the extras later as time progresses...

Quote:
Don't expect quality pix until I finalize everything... As you can see, everything is running well. There's an upside down fan on the back of the radiator that I must have reversed when I removed it to put the rad fittings in. I'll fix that later (they're crap budget fans anyway for the push, and I'm thinking of getting some gentle typhoons for the push aspect).

Quote:
Everything seems to be seated well. No leaks on a 24 hour leak test in the case, and everything seems leak free after hardware installation as well. I'll likely keep monitoring it. Braided cables worked out nicely, though the 8-pin braided cables are a bit buried in the back. Might work on that.

Quote:
The blue of the RAM fan isn't really working for me, so I'll likely cover the circles and siding with some cf wrap, black stickers, or some brushed black aluminum vinyl (Removing the plastic fans and using a heatgun should get the corsair stickers off). Braided cables look alright though. I bought a back-plate for the GPU, mainly for display when I re-sell it in the future. I still plan on buying the EK GPU block and EK back-plate when I can afford it.

Quote:
I promise I'll fix this blurry problem with my camera for the final build pics... Close up on the GPU 6-pins. I'm still unsure how I'll route the piping for the GPU because I already find the SB to Rez tubing to be in the way. I'll have to go to the drawing board to come up with something.

Quote:
Speaking of invasive, I'm not a fan of this tubing here. Really seems to be in the way. I thought about running it to the top of the res instead, but it still seems to get in the way. I might consider some angled fittings to at least shorten the length of the tubing.

Quote:
CPU fittings are alright, though, as you might be able to tell, there's a tad bit of kinking on the CPU to NB tube. This is a spot I'll def consider putting two 45 degree fittings to try and remove that bending. The rest of the tubing in the build looks good so far. Still needs cleaning after all the coiling though.
Since everything seems to be going well, I just have to wait for the cf wrap to arrive, drain the system, wash it a few times, do all the wrapping, and place everything in their final spots with some rivets. After that I can refill the system with some additive/distilled water combo and use my Indigo-Xtreme TIM on the CPU rather than just MX-2. From there I'll move towards the second loop (GPU-only loop).

A few things I want to do:

-CF wrap MB tray, bottom/basement tray (visible sections), plastic covers, custom metal covers, and some side parts of case (depending on how much wrap I have).
-Adding some noise-dampening foam to the basement compartment, mainly for the PSU high-pitched whining (cheap upgrade; only about $12 CAD).
-Buy the fittings for the second GPU loop, as well as the EK GPU block + backplate for the GTX 570.
-Buy a few black mosfet heatsinks to put around the MB to make it more visually appealing.
-Look into getting the second GPU [probably much much later].
-Cable routing and some fan sleeving.
-Installing a fan in the side panel to push more air into the basement compartment.
-Installing some temperature readers into the loop and case; running all those meters to some centralized out-of-sight area.
-I'd like a piece of sheet metal to come from the top of the case to just the level the radiator fans are visible. It would help with the overall clean look.
-Cleaning of the tubing and figure out a way to clean up the overall look of the case with paint touch-ups and etc.

That's it for now!

Nice build so far. I really enjoy seeing these 800D builds. I like the idea of closing off the basement level and the drive bays. Once you have the panels wrapped, I think it will give the over all look a much cleaner appearance.

Good work
