High Performance RDP

post #1 of 4

I am interested in doing a much higher performance remote desktop experience to be able to stream video and have 3d effects working. This is all on a home network with gigabit networking.

I had seen this link today but can't seem to duplicate the capabilities between two windows 7 machines:

The Remote Desktop Client in Windows 7 is equipped with new features and enhancements via Remote Desktop Protocol 7 (RDP). The most interesting enhancement is the support for Desktop Composition, full Aero glass effect.

* Windows 7 Aero support
* Direct 2D & Direct 3D 10.1 application support
* True multi-monitor support
* RDP Core Performance Improvements
* Multimedia enhancements
* Media Foundation support
* DirectShow support
* Low Latency audio playback support
* Bi-directional audio support

Ok so I was trying this between to windows machines and it seem that you are required to have windows 7 ultimate or enterprise to have this work remotely. I am only running professional.

Any higher performance RDP setups that actually utilized gigabit?

Hmmm I looked through there pages and didn't really see a whole lot on full screen performance or indications that they do full screen streaming better. I am considering ultra vnc or other type of less secure VNC type application. I figure I can use windows native RDP service for remote connect and when I am local I will use a VNC type program.

I am really surprised there isn't something that really uses gigabit's abilities to give a full out "just like your connected directly to that machine" experience.
