the ONLY difference in a Sata II and Sata III cable is the III has a clip to hold it in place.... otherwise they are wired the same... and have no difference in speed.

SATA Revision 3.0 was designed to facilitate a much more elegant – and cost

effective – migration to higher data rates. Rather than completely redefining the spec,

SATA Revision 3.0 achieves its data rate increase by faster signal switching. While this

has resulted in changes to the PHY, modifications to the protocol have been kept to a

minimum. In addition, SATA Revision 3.0 is backward compatible so that the same

connectors and cabling used for SATA 3 Gb/s under SATA Revision 2.6 can be used for

SATA 6Gb/s.

This decision not only enables end-users to retain their existing investment in

cabling when moving to SATA 6Gb/s

, it also enables silicon manufacturers to maintain

much of their existing IP. Except for the doubling of the data rate, SATA Revision 3.0 is

no more complex than SATA Revision 2.6 from an electrical perspective, and no heroics

are required to implement the technology at 6Gb/s speeds."

You really need to post the source otherwise it's plagarism
post #55 of 77
OMG I didnt plagerize anything. And I certainly did not visit your link either. That was information compiled from Crucials forums of others that are misinformed and think there is a difference in cables.

Anyway... back to the topic.... getting OP's C300 working correctly.

Did you update your firmware for your drive?
When you did the reinstall... did you utilize the options in windows install to delete the existing partitions... and then install letting windows reformat ?

is this before or after you installed your MB disk for MB drivers? When you run the AS SSD... what driver is showing it is using ?

do you have any other drives connected ?
I would agree that a sata cable is a sata cable. but i guess thats personal opinion..

I did update the firmware for my drive and I also updated my motherboard bios.

When I installed windows I got to select the drive page and deleted the current partition and then clicked next. So I guess windows did format it.

I haven't installed the MB drivers yet because most of them aren't needed, the only one that doesn't work is the LAN port. but i'll install them now.
leaving out the marvell driver of course.

and When i go into AS SSD it doesn't show what driver i'm using unless it's hidden somewhere.

And no I don't have any drives connected. Right now the only thing connected is my SSD and my DVD Drive.

EDIT: Also I looked in my mobo box and I don't think it came with any cables.

EDIT AGAIN: NVM I found the cables they were in my tool box, but there are 3 cables 2 in one bag and 1 in another bag.

Any guesses as to which one is the "sata3" cable?

up at the top left-hand corner of AS SSD it will show the driver.. like IaStor... or MAhcsi... ect.

This will tell the truth as to what the board is using.

I will humor the Sata II and III topic..... IF your MB came with different cables.. they will have stamped on them as such. Some manufacturers take advantage of ill-knowledge and attempt to keep the belief alive that there is a difference.

In fact here is a quote from Crucials forums on such a topic by user 'dingle'
"I just tested with my c300 and x58a UD7 with SATA 3.0 and 2.0 (at least it doesn't say 3.0) cables in a SATA 3 port, and both work and perform the same it would appear."

Agree. SATA cables are SATA cables, I test my SSD in both SATA 3Gb/s and SATA 6Gb/s port with the same cable and the cables doesn't make the difference.

If it says MSAHCI in AS SSD, then you are running the MicroSoft AHCI driver

The Sata3 cable should have a split line in the middle of the cable, but there should also say "Sata 6Gb/s" with white letters on the cable (just let him try)
