Steelseries 7G/6Gv2 vs other mechanical gaming keyboards

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I was just wondering, I am looking into buying either a 7G or a 6Gv2, and I was wondering how loud it is compared to other mechanical keyboards? I know mechanical keyboards are going to be louder than normal membrane keyboards, but how do either of these match up to say....an abs m1? I have an abs m1 but I do not use it because I don't really like the ringing sound it makes.

The SS 7G and 6gv2 are fitted with MX Black switches which are a linear and non-clicky. The only sound you should hear is when the keys are bottomed out or spring back into rest position. I have never used an M1, but I think those have non-clicky alps in them? Maybe try a set of doubleshot keycaps, the thicker plastic should give it a deeper sound when keys bottom out.

I have only used a couple of mecanical keyboards now but the ABS M1 was one of them. I would have to say that I wouldn't really make too many conclusions based on that board. I don't know why the M1 was so loud and squeaky. My Dell AT101w which uses original complicated black alps was never really loud especially compared to the M1. I loved that keyboard it feels so much better than my M1. I would even say that my Blackwidow which actually uses an actual clicky switch isn't as loud as the M1.

That's pretty close to true in my experience. Though you should put "Model F spacebar" at the far left there, just to the left of "gunshot", "firecracker", and "car backfire".

The M1 was much louder than this Black Widow. The keys made this hollow ringing noise, almost like the sound of a vibrating spring, and they were quite loose on, which meant that they rattled around a lot and made the plastic-on-plastic sound of bottoming out even just from ordinary typing. I'm much happier with the key performance even if I dislike the layout due to the fact that the macro keys are useless and just get in the way.
