New Mobo, CPU and RAM $500-$600 - Page 2

Phenom II x6 1055T + M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 - $303
2x G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600Mhz 7-8-7 2x2 - $130

$433 and you have six cores, a great motherboard, and 8GB of some good RAM.
With $500-600 you could probably go for an LGA1155 Sandy Bridge choice which is also a pretty decent platform to choose. Note that for upgrading from both AM3 to AM3+/Bulldozer and Sandy Bridge LGA1155 to Ivy Bridge LGA1155, you'll have to buy new motherboards. So at this point it really doesn't matter which one you choose if you wish to upgrade to the new platforms coming out in a few months and about a year, respectively.

I've never been a fan of filling all my ram slots when I could get the same amount of memory in less sticks. Am I wrong in thining this way?

4x2GB or 2x4GB?

Sometimes less sticks don't overclock that well or have the same speed/timings available at all
Sometimes they cost more.
The 2x4GB 7-8-7 Ripjaws cost $30 more and I don't think they usually overclock as well.

So what would I expect t oget out of overclocking that CPU? I guess I need to be sold on the six core cpu...

I hate to be such a pain, but I dont want to throw good money after bad.
