I am finally deciding to upgrade my pc and was looking to buy a amd phenom II quad core 970. Its has an AM3 socket so I would like to know what motherboard would you recommend?

I was thinking Asus Crosshair iii/iv formula?

Any suggestion>?

i think that board might be a tad over kill. it would help us out alittle more if you put in a budget and maybe what you use your pc for. are you going to continue using the 8800gt?

It comes down to your budget. I have the Crosshair IV Formula, its a great board with many bells and whistles. I would say stick to Asus or Gigabyte as they make solid boards. I have also heard some positive things about the MSI boards.

Essentially any of these boards if you are looking for top of the line AM3's.

sorry, new.

No, I don't plan on using the 8800gt, time for something better.

And i was hoping to spend a max of about $200 on the MB.

I use the pc for general stuff pretty much. and a lot of gaming.

the 890fxe from biostar is hard to beat. low 100 dollar mobo for an 890 chipset. but people recommend pairing it with a black edition processor since OCing it through the fsb may not yield the results you want. the board holds several records and has a proven track record.

i recommend the 890fxe from biostar or the Asus 890 board, which will run you double the biostar, however.

hmm, i'd go with Sandy Bridge (intel's new lineup) for an upgrade. AMD's going to come out with AM3+ real soon. Waiting a bit shouldn't hurt?
