Best Wireless A/B/G/N PCI card? - Page 3

Currently the best option for Desktop WiFi cards is to either get a cheap USB Adapter, or get a PCIe to MiniPCIe adapter and rig up some antenna's yourself.

Since Laptop solutions like the Killer-N WiFi NIC is one of the best solutions out there.

Unfortunately, unlike wired NIC's, Wireless NIC's get very little development as there is no "Enterprise Wireless" to really trickle down designs and features.

As well as R&D.

No one develops wireless networks to an Enterprise standard. They just develop consumer wireless that "works."

This has changed recently with Netgear, Asus, & Linksys; as they've finally decided that stripping out features is a "Bad" idea. Instead to allow things like DD-WRT, which they now consider a "Good" idea.

Netgear & Buffalo have even gone as far as to just re-skin DD-WRT with their brand image so development isn't as hard on their R&D or Software teams.

The kit you listed if classed as 'off the shelf' crap.
There are millions of high schools, colleges, hospitals, conference centres, sports stadiums and arenas etc. that use proper stuff all over the world.
Netgear, ASUS, Linksys is cups and string stuff in comparison.

They're wide coverage and fast, but not feature rich.

They are also, only making the access points, not the cards.

best one? ive tried many and if you have to use a pci/pcie card, get the dlink xtreme N ones, but even those are only okay

if you want the best performance however, get a wireless bridge, or a router flashed with dd-wrt then made into a wireless bridge like i did with my WNDR3700

'They're wide coverage and fast, but not feature rich. '

What features would you expect that are missing?

'They are also, only making the access points, not the cards.'

Hence my previous post asking whether or not you were referring to the wireless infrastructure.

I find that this TP-Link works very well:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833704059

Minimal driver install, works reliably, seems decently built. Good reception (50 ft and three walls away from my TP-link wireless router, four bars). I don't know much about the brand, but I haven't had any issues with them ever.
