I ran arkham asylum on my 5870 with no issues and no physx. It was an awesome game and I completely maxxed it out.

The physx comparison on the youtube vid is such a disappointment. I though physx would enhance the detail of the whole environment not just smoke, breakable walls, and a little tear on the banner....

I think the OP is in the 'classic scenario' of Physx card (ie having a Nvidia card lying around and collecting dust). I say, before buying the Batman AA game, OP just installs the 8800GT card and tests it, mainly to confirm that your 550W PSU can handle it and to see if you like the Physx effects. You can download quite a number of free Physx demos and run with/without the effects and see how you like them. Additionally, take a look at these videos showing the various Physx effects of Batman AA.
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/articl...d=138&pageid=2

For the 3 questions:
a. I think your CM 550W PSU is marginal but is still possible. One note: both eXtreme Power Plus 550 and the GX-550 have only two 6+2 Pin PCIe connectors and so you need to use ''2x-4-pin-molex-to-6-pin-PCIe'' adaptor cable to connect to the one 6-pin PCIe input of the 8800GT.

b. Using a Physx card with your main AMD card will NOT give you higher framerate. Unlike using a Physx card to help out a main Nvidia card where framerate might increase as the Physx effects are unloaded from the main Nvidia card to the Dedicated Physx card, using a Physx card in an AMD graphics subsytem will give you visual enhancements only.

c. Running your 6950 on a x8 slot might give a performance loss of, say, around 2%.

After what, 8 years? There are currently only 20 games that support GPU-based Physx calculations. Of those twenty the only ones you may have heard of are Metro, Batman AA, Mafia 2, Mirror's Edge, and Unreal Tournament3. All the rest are things like Hot Dance Party 1 and 2.

There are around 2-300 games that can do CPU Physx but only 20 as of today can do GPU.

Man you are right on point! I will try it out and a 2% performance loss will not be noticeable in any games so definitively not a bad deal "if" I like physx.

I had a looooong night people... lost a lot of money at the casino but ended up winning everything back + an extra $140 at the last minute.

Anyways, I started to re-assemble my PC at 2am and with a few adjustment I made my 9800gt sc fit the x8 PCI-E lane (Had to flip the fan).I also added a few screws to the tower to support both video cards. I was finally able to seat the 6950 perfectly. Everything is assemble and I was crossing my finger, hoping, that the 550 PSU was enough to run it. Power it on and then it turn off 3 seconds later... it turn back on I was so happy .... but wait what is that wire hanging around? Oh ***** I forgot to plug in the CPU fan (this was 3ish am). Alright that was scary. Turn the PC on again and everything is smooth as butter. I installed Batman at 4am and downloaded the 1.1 patch to enable physx. Overall I think I like the little details, the steam from the drain, paper on the floor, etc.. . Something was bothering me though... I google "how do i tell if physx is enable/running" and a lot of people suggested using a monitoring program such as AB. If physx is being use then the GPU % will fluctuate. Last night, when I was playing Batman, GPU 2 usage % (9800gt) did not fluctuate at all. I tried to test physx with FluidMark and no fluctuation on GPU usage. How do I tell if physx is being used as a dedicated card?

To answer your question about the x8 vs x16 check out this link here

AVP went from 148 to 147 fps
Avatar 77 to 76
BFBC2 68 to 67

TLDR - 1 fps = not at all a big deal

Easy, Go to a desk witha stack of paper and then do the bat stun. that thing where he "swooshes" his cape. If ALL the papers fall and go all over the place, then it is on. if not all or none,i think non, then it is off (haven't played it in a long time)
