Is Physx worth it for me? - Page 4

Your main card is a HD6950 and it does all the graphics rendering. It has nothing to do with Physx. Turning Physx on/off has little to do with it. Even without a Dedicated Physx card, it still does not/cannot do the Physx effects.

If your Physx card is 'strong', then it does all Physx calculations and delivers on time and there should not be any slow down of framerate.

However, if the Physx card is 'weak', it cannot do the Physx effects fast enough to keep up with your main card, resulting in possible framerate drop.

This is one possible reason for a framerate drop.

So, when you have Physx enabled, check the usage of your Physx card and see if any part of it is stressed out to 100%. Try overclocking your card to see if it helps the framerate.

But, it seems to me a little odd, seeing that the difference between ''Physx high vs Physx off'' is basically 1/2.

Okay I get it, I was under the impression that the 6950 will render and the 8800/9800gt will provide the extra eye candy without taking any performance hit.

I check the usage of my physx card and it's always at 0 %. That makes me wonder is the physx card doing what it's suppose to? Then again if it's not working then I wouldn't see the special effects in Batman AA right? Anyways, going from an average of 140 fps to 70fps is a huge drop in performance...

Even if you have a GTX260 as a dedicated card, you would still see a performance hit.

Physx is just that inefficient.

Thx for the link.

I re-install nvidia driver, physx driver, and hybrid physix mod. This time I use the dual monitor setup to install the 8800/9800gt. I started AB to monitor GPU usage and this is the first time I saw my dedicated physic card using up to 58%. Benchmark and now I'm averaging 77 fps, an increase of 4 fps. I think I'm expecting too much from Nvidia physx. Everyone thx for your help!
