screen flashes from time to time - Page 2

if it was stress related, i would think it would do it more often when using my 22" 1680x1050 monitor, not my 10" netbook LCD. i even play 720p BluRay movies on my 22" and it never flickers.

i played WoW on the 10" LCD for about 2 weeks or so, but that was a couple months ago and i never had any issues while playing. thats the only GPU stressing thing i do on this netbook.

i just installed updated drivers from Intel's website. apparently HP had some custom drivers and idk if they were causing problems. i decided to go ahead and search for drivers cause the screen went black while i was using my LCD monitor. its never done that before. i hope this stops happening because if its not a software issue, idk what i will do. my warranty is up and they will charge me a ton if i send this in for repair. i hope the GPU isnt overheating or something because the cooling solution isnt adequate

edit: its still doing it. i loaded the most recent intel driver that i downloaded straight from their website and the screen just went black. i had to put the computer in standby and bring it back up to get the computer screen to come back on. im out of my warranty by a year or more... i dont think there is much i can do besides pay HP to fix it, which i dont want to do.

im leaning toward a hardware issue now. possibly the screen or the GPU, but im leaning toward the screen cause if it was GPU related, i think i would see more problems related to stress rather than it being random

so i tried to call HP, i was on hold for like 20 mins and then i couldnt understand the person on the phone, not only because their tech support is outsourced to india or the like, but his phone wasnt clear at all.

even if i do get ahold of their tech support, their website says i might be charged just to call them if my product isnt under warranty and since my product isnt under warranty, the live chat and email services arent available to me. and since i had my laptop customized with the SSD and such, i dont have one of their generic model numbers, so i cant even submit a form for tech support or any sort of support for that matter

i have to pay to get information about how much i have to pay to get my netbook fixed... i cant believe this crap. i cant believe they won any sort of customer support award.

i am furious

1day bump and my undying gratitude to anyone with useful information
