The modded bios is the safest way but I have seen no proof that a 6970 bios has killed any cards.

and what about this thread even if it's all just hearsay it's still safer for the memory to operate at stock timings and volts. yeah i know this is OCN and ppl are going to be pushing to get every last drop of performance out of their equipment, but the performance gains don't outweigh the risks imo.

i'm operating at 970/1450 24/7 speeds w/ 1536 shaders on a modded 6950 bios and i'm happy with it.

this is just ignorant

Thread Starter
I haven't experienced card squealing or anything like that, the only time was the extremely weird artifacts when I was playing RIFT, I'll play RIFT again later tonight to see if it happens again and if it does I'll switch to 10.12a hotfix and test RIFT to see if it's a driver thing.

I saw at least a couple of posts like this referring to that very thread that you linked to.

mine was one of those "killed card" votes from the other poll and i changed it this time to "My 6950 flashed with a 6970 bios has no problems after 1 week" because what i thought was a busted card was nothing else but driver/game engine bugs
there was a few other people that had the same problem of thinking their card was dead but it was just driver/game engine bugs

link

We already have two people here who thought that their card was damaged due to driver or game bugs.

He is right, I haven't seen one confirmed report of someone killing their card with a 6970 bios.
