GTA IV System Help

Thread Starter
Below is my system and it cannot play this game without lag every few seconds when i look into distance frustrating as hell! is there anything i can do to make it run on my system i.e. do i need more RAM? or ? i am stuck i even tried playing it on low settings for everything which helped but only minimally. I heard its a resource heavy game but this is ridiculous.

Thanks

It's gta 4, that's about it. but something is up, as I run it full out without major issues.
PS. that psu sucks.
Edit: Definately has to be your PSU

You have four gigs of ram right?

Look at my Sigrig. I run it just fine without a hitch

PS. when I had a bad PSU it seemed as if the cards Underclock, Plus i had hangs in general

Yeah, GTA IV is heavily VRAM limited. I couldn't max it out on the 5970, which only uses 1gb of its 2gb VRAM since it is 2 cards in 1. However, I could max it out on my GTX 480, which has 1.5gb. So consider a card with more VRAM.

1 gig of vram works fine for me, I have all my settings fully maxed too.
Beer, here's why the psu sucks btw. It can't do it's rated wattage, it goes out of spec on ripple and voltage regulation as well.

yes i have four gigs of ram and have been running black ops on the highest of settings as well as mafia II so it is strange this will not work at even lowest of low! PSU? as in crappy make? or inadequate wattage? what would be recommended?

I'd say CPU clock speed. Sure, its an i7...but its only clocked at 2.93GHz. Your PSU isn't that great either, but I don't think its specifically the problem here.

I edited my last post to say why. but something like the Seasonic s12D 520 or 620w will be more then enough, the Antec TPN's aren't bad either, the Kingwin lazer gold series are pretty good so is nzxt's hale 90 series.
Pioneer my stock i5 runs it fine, I don't think the psu is the cause but somethign that needs replacing.
