Cannot boot, AT ALL. Please help!

Okay so recently I reformatted my HDD (320GB Western Digital) From a Lan machine I use reguarly, specs are: Intel C2D E4500, 2.2GHz, 2gb ram, ASUS 9600GSO, (HDD Listed above). I reformatted the drive and installed Windows XP On one partition, the other partition used for storing games / files etc.

After a reboot yesterday, HDD was not recognised. The dual partition configuration worked fine for about a month untill this happened. No major software / hardware changes were applied to the machine. I put the windows XP disc in, and proceeded to the set-up. The thing is, the setup recognises the Hard drive, and its partitions, even recognising that files are present.

I went into the BIOS and set the HDD as 1st boot device, as it tries to boot, nothing. Black boot screen with the little cursor, it's as if no Hard drive is installed at all. All connections to PSU etc are fine, and as I said the windows setup recognises that the HDD is there.

I am fairly experienced with tech and this is the first time this has happened :S Please help guys I am in desperation here and don't want to spend money on a techie.

Cheers

Yeah I tried a different sata cable, could it be that the file system is NTFS? I heard that it tends to **** itself easily.
