- mid tower case
- Side window if possible & black
- Most for his money! lol
- works with his 55" Lg 1080P 120hz LCD TV as monitor

Anyway I put together a build for him and this is what I came up with! Please let me know as soon as you can anyone what you think I should change. I would like to try and order everything before I go to sleep =). Thanks ahead of time!

Psu - Corsair HX850W 850w Modular Power Supply $159.99

that raid WD black is gonna make some noise and combined with 6970 which tends to be very loud at hight loads this is not gonna be a silent system at all ... here's what i have in mind :
Mobo+8GB 1600 Mhz Ram 245$ AR
CPU+Water Cooler 297$
Case 180$ (stylish design and 3 main fans are blowing at the bottom making it a silent case if its standing on the ground)
GTX 570 315$ AR (more horse power then 6970 and more noise\\heat efficient)
PSU 165$ (personal preference , less noise , more efficient then HX 850 )
SSD 120GB 185$ AR (for games , OS)
HDD 2TB 70$ AR + promo code (low noise and power draw good for movie\\game storage)

subtotal ...dunno im lazy to count xD

Thanks I will check it out now. Only reason I leaned so heavy on the 6970 was because of the vram and what he is using as a monitor. Just thought it would be better for 1080p im still learning though

all in all looks pretty good. But I dont think a full tower case will work for him =( seems like that has become the hardest thing to find is a good cool efficient silent mid tower with a window in black lol.

The price is great considering the mail in rebates! and actually I think a bit cheaper than the amd build I had lol

I thought your friend wanted the best bang for his buck? Not the most expensive parts you could come up with.

1) Grab a 955BE C3 Stepping instead of a 970. Same CPU.
2) If you're only using a single GPU, you have no REASON to be getting an 850w PSU. An Antec TPN 550w would be MORE than sufficient, and save a good $100.
3) A 55" TV is still only 1080p. A single 6870 or GTX560 / GTX460 would be sufficient enough for most games. Although I suppose its fine to go a little overkill.
4) If you really do want 6970 performance, get a 6950 2GB instead and flash it to a 6970.

With the money saved from the PSU and CPU, get him a better aftermarket cooler for the GPU, so it stays quiet.

EDIT:
And $200 for a case? Jeez.

I have read some people that flashed theyre 6950's complain about the card failing after time. Also have hear that it has been fine and stable.

just trying to find the most silent case I can find for him. That silverstone from reviews and the features seemed to fit the bill.

That psu will be enough to handle everything and any overclocking he decides to do?

Sorry again if I seem moronic I am learning as I go this is all so so new to me.

Silence has absolutely nothing to do with the case, and everything to do with the coolers and fans you use . Pick him a case that HE LIKES. Let him pick it out. From there, you fill in the components .

Here's what I'd suggest for a budget-ish build:
Case of his choice
890FX board (I prefer Asus, but the Biostar you have isn't bad)
955BE C3 Stepping (will hit 3.8-4.0GHz stable easy, just the same as the 970)
HD6950 2GB / HD6870 / GTX460 1GB / GTX470 / GTX560 (pick one really)
Aftermarket cooler for the GPU that's GOOD (pick your GPU carefully if you go this route, as not all GPU's can have aftermarket coolers yet)
Coolermaster 212+ cooler / Xigmatek S1283 or Dark Knight
WD Black 1TB, maybe a SSD for OS

Then get some good fans in there. There's tons of great fans that aren't loud, or that undervolt nicely. If you get some that undervolt nicely (the San Ace's undervolt nicely), then get a fan controller.

EDIT:
You could also just pick a GPU that comes with a good custom cooler on it already, like the MSI Lightning / Twin Frozr / Hawk.

Either way thanks for the advice. I really really really like the way those msi cards look! the twin frozr looks awesome!
