I will put my 580s against anyones 6970s at any resolution.
Two HD6970's will beat your SLI'd GTX580's in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat at 2560x1600 with the Ultra Quality preset and 4x anti aliasing.

Comparing a single graphics card to another single graphics card is perfectly fine. One is Nvidia's flagship model the other will be AMD's, you compare them because that's what each company's fastest graphics card is.

I'm going to go w/...depends on what games you like to play.

@ your resolution, either one will suffice, as always certain games work better for the green team or red team.

I know w/ my setup, I could use as much VRAM as possible, I'm pretty sure that goes the same w/ your multi-monitor setup as well.

If I had a similar setup and if money wasn't an object, I would go green...or better yet, see if you can get one of those rumored Palit 580's w/ the 3gb of VRAM!!

I voted for the two 580's in SLi simply because I tried eyefinity before with no luck, but have had a ton of success with NVIDIA surround

If you are able to wait for the release of the 6990 then do so to see what the performance of the card is. If it sucks, go with the 580s. If you cannot wait until then, just get the 580s and be done with it. Both sides have their benefits and downfalls.

Edit: Voted for 580s because you may not want to wait.

That is a very good point.

So would you say the GTX 595 590 (edit) would be a better choice than the 6990? I think that is apples to apples....

Both OCed, i doubt it very much.

No its not, you can compare a dual-gpu solution to another dual-gpu solution. Both AMD and Nvidia are creating dual-gpu solutions for this generation of cards, if you want to compare them go ahead.

If you want to compare a single GPU to a dual-gpu then you need to compare the single gpu in SLI or CFX versus the dual card.

Really no idea, we have to wait on benchmarks and actually figure out what the 595 is...

I would go with the 6990s.

The 580s needs more vram for three monitor setups.
