[Gizmag] Breakthrough promises $1.50/ gallon synthetic gasoline, no carbon emissions - Page 2

1.50, that is crap. I might be 33 years old, but when I turned 16 in 1993, my first tank of gas cost $0.87 a gallon. Make it where it is at that cost again, and I will care.

Let's hope they don't get bought out by the Saudis and disappear.

Maybe you could make a time travel machine and go back to 1993?

Sounds nice. We are way too invested in the combustion engine to replace everything with electric/hydro/hybrid what not. We just need ways to power these engines.

Please get something going! This is the 2nd hopeful story I've read. This summer I'd like to make money, not spend all my money on gas. Fatty will walk!

I can't stop staring in wonder when you people say $2 a galloon is expensive.

If you lived in Europe and had to pay around 1.3€ per liter, you'd be horrified. Yep, that's around $7 per galloon. Nearly four times, yes.

Neither of these hypothetical situations make any sense.

The only problem here is that this isn't really like some kind of biofuel that is grown by a plant, this is just an innovative way to store hydrogen without the high pressure tanks or the expense of liquid hydrogen. There is still the same problem of how do you make the hydrogen.

They do say it would be cheaper to make the hydrogen on the site of renewable energy sources due to the ease of transport, which is plausible. But even if you can handle hydrogen like you would gasoline; there is still the problem of extracting it from water or whatever else, which usually requires more energy.

The website btw is http://www.cellaenergy.com/

Oh the memories. I'm 33 as well, and can remember filling up the tank from empty with a ten spot. Mind you, when it was like this, the economy was BOOMING and "Made in the USA" was a hot thing to say.
