HDD dock not detected - Sandy Bridge Build

Thread Starter
My new sandy bridge build do not detect 2 different WD Caviar hard drives in a Vantex dock.

Background info:
- Asus P8P67 Pro - WD Caviar black 640GB
- Using USB or esata connections, none of the hard drives appear in the BIOS or Disk Management in Windows 7.
- Both drives work perfectely when connected using internal sata connectors.
- Both drives were working internally in my old build.
- Two older sata HDD work using both, USB and esata connections (same dock).
- I have re-formatted both hard drives as NTFS and FAT32 (using the internal sata connections), still not detected.
- Neither drive is detected in my other computer.

Conclusions so far:
- The dock works OK
- cables (USB and esata) are fine
- HDDs are in good shape.

I want to use these HDDs to back up all my data. Any ideas how to solve this weird problem?

Thanks
Sandy Bridge

did you install the drivers for the dock? I know this might be a dumb question but if the drivers are installed and it doesnt work then its an odd prob.

thanks, Since I'm running Windows 7 I thought no drivers were needed?. The only driver available is for windows 98.

The dock and the computer work with an older seagate hard drive.

try installing the drivers for the actual drive. you shouldnt need drivers for a hdd in win7 but if its a new driver firmware you might. Cant hurt to have oem drivers installed instead of win7 drivers since they suck. LEast for stuff like lan and gfx they do.

Thanks again, I went to WD website and google it, but I could not find any drivers for my hard drives: WD Caviar WD6400AAKS and WD6401AALS

This morning I used a Jumper in the HDDs to enable PUIS (power up in standby) and they appeared in Disk Management and asked to initialize. Unfortunately, failed telling me that it is an "incorrect function".

The HHDs appear now in disk management only when I connect them using the USB cable, but not with esata.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

The dock has its own power supply, It may be that there's not enough power or is it failing? but, how comes it works with other HDDs?
I'll get a new USB 3.0 Dock tomorrow and see.

Strange that it works with older drives...

You mentioned that the only drivers available for the dock were for Windows 98 but it has eSATA. Very strange...

Can you provide us with a manufacturer/model of the dock?

this might help. Either it just isnt supported in win7/vista (makes no sense) or your enclosure is malfunctioning in someway.
