Maybe, but since no other program of any kind does that except conky that I know of, much of the responsibility must be laid at it's feet. I can see zero correlation to Plasmoids. It would seem to me that the basic conflict is between KDE and Gnome as to how they handle Desktop Background/Wallpaper, but I am glad to find out that you have noticed it too, mushroomboy, because in my case Gnome is sorta shoehorned in as it is not officially supported so it's easy to be distracted by that as a unique quirk. Apparently it is a 3-way cluster fsck.
