Server 2008R2 Core automatic login issue

Hey all,

For those of you familiar with Server Core, here's the deal. I created a VM of Server 2008R2 Core. I was required to enter a user name during the configuration, and did. Once set up, I no longer needed that user (I plan to log in as local administrator) and so I deleted the user.

My issue is now that this is done, every time I reboot the VM, it attempts to automatically log in as that deleted user, even after I've clicked "Switch Users" and logged in as the local admin. Seeing as this VM is a template which I plan to clone, this is highly frustrating. If this were a GUI install of Server, I could probably take care of it pretty simply, but seeing as it's Core, that complicates things a little.

Does anyone have any suggestions? This is driving me nuts.

Okay, after getting another cup of coffee and thinking about it, I figured it out.

Ran REGEDIT and navigated to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon.

Found a value for AutoAdminLogon; changed it from 1 to 0.
Found a value for DefaultUserName; changed it from the deleted user to Administrator.

Rebooted. Problem solved, though I'm still not sure why it defaulted to automatic logon in the first place. Time to snapshot my VM.
