Proxy settings messed up

Thread Starter
Hi, i was trying to open my gmail and suddenly i got a message that the proxy is not allowing any connections in Firefox.

I was able to connect to services like steam or any chat client. Then when i looked under proxy settings in firefox , the manual proxy configuration option was selected and i changed that back to no proxy. And now i am able to open all the sites. But i noticed that IE is having problem opening a site.

I looked to see if there was any proxy setup in ie but there was nothing. Could some one help me fix the problem? Thanks.

PS : Running Windows 7 X64

Did you set the proxy in the first place?

Are you checking the LAN settings within internet options?

Check your DNS server entries to make sure they are right too. I'm assuming since you said you can access sites in FF that they are ok, but it pays to check.

No i dint. I think it might be some virus or malware issue. But i am not sure. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials. I know its not the best, but i cant afford to buy something like Kasper Sky.

A quick scan of Malwarebytes (after updating) will tell you within 10 minutes if you might have something or not.

MSE isn't bad. It just has to be understood that no A/V protection is impenetrable. They can't protect you from something they weren't programmed to know. Virus Protection is limited to being reactive, and not proactive.

Btw, if you do find something, then I would try running something like Sophos Anti-rootkit. It's supposed to scan for 64bit kits.
