Monitor : Spanning vs Extented Desktop

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I recently bought 3 monitor for multiple uses. I will be mainly gaming and developping software and webpages. I was wondering what is you opinion about which mode would be best for me. I know that with spanning i can play game at a resolution of +-6000x1080 but window managing is hell as windows tend to take all the space from the left to the right and i dont like the fact that my desktop is not centered ( all the windows buttons and start buttons are on the right monitor and the time is on the left monitor. Is there anything I could do about it ? As for the extented desktop it's pretty much as i would like it but SLI is deactivated and cannot be used unless I disable some monitor or drop to spanning view. What are my options from there. Any input ?

thanks.

Unfortunately, you sound like a perfect candidate for an AMD card. I say "unfortunately" because I see in your sig rig you have a very good GPU setup already.

AMDs solution provides hotkeys that allow you to switch between different viewing settings whether it be Eyefinity, Extended, or whatever you please.

I don't see why you say unfortunately, his cards are 3d vision and 3d vision surround capable, and I'm certain you could AHK it to switch even if nvidia doesn't offer a hotkey solution (yet)... Anyways, I personally prefer both to game and work in extended desktop, I can have a music player open on one monitor, and my instant messages on another; with the game in the center. Although, 3d vision surround is quite appetizing, I may change my mind based on how well it performs for me.

yeah up to now surround vision is working well. I just hate the fact that i cannot hotkey to a mode or another. That and the fact that it takes forever to switch from one mode to another. But it's quite spectacular to play with three monitor.

i use ultramon software to manage my 2 monitors. (3rd monitor came in today). (4th?)
i dont game.
middle main [v7] monitor is landscape. left [hp] monitor is portrait.

extended desktop.

i have another 15" monitor to the left of the hp connected to the motherboard video. that i use with its own usb keyboard-touchpad with teamplayer software. teamplayer allows for 2 mice-keyboards to be used to the same computer independently. thats for my music station..
