I tried running the rig on my Enermax Liberty 500W which I used on my old Athlon 64 x2 6000; that was 80+ and it always crashed when benching, which is why I went up to the HX 650 and I've not had any issues since. Personally I've always found the extra little bit of power ontop of what a PSU calc recommends ensures no BSODs or lockups; if I go by what the PSU calc recommends at 80% loads and 90% TDP etc I've had issues when overclocking; perhaps I'm just unlucky.

Either it was an issue unrelated to power, or the Enermax was faulty. Rest assured you're below 300-350WDC when benching though.

my freind uses a corsair vx 450 psu to power his rig
which consists an oced 1090t x6(4ghz) a saphire hd5850(oced) and 3 hdd + all other h/w and he is using it for more than 6 months now and has not faced any problem.......so ur enermax was either faulty or u had some other problem.....
and fyi i tried running my rig + another gtx 460 hawk and it was fine...and my psu is corsair gs600watt 80+rated cwt psh 2 unit and its not even top of the line psu but handled the 2 gtx 460's very well.......

Cool, well the probs I've had in the past must just have been down to dud/cheaper PSUs then rather than actual wattage. Still, can't say I'm going to downgrade hehe

Just to make sure you've calc'd from the right stuff though, I run 4 120mm case fans, 1 x 230mm, 1 x OCZ XTC ram cooler, 4 sticks DDR3 1600, 965 OC'd to 3.8 with H50, 1 SSD, 4 HDD, 8+ USB powered perifs including an MAudio keyboard and Korg Nanopad, PCI-E x1 sound card, 5850 mild oc. Rest of external kit is powered from mains so doesn't get factored in.

if u r so worried then even a corsair vx 550 would have been lot more than what ur rig needs but u still would have had ur peace of mind.........and btw nowadays these quality psu's dont cost too much.....

Ah well, no harm in overpowering I guess The last thing I need when composing something in Ableton, recording from instruments or doing GD etc is a lockup so I guess that having bought the 650W there's no chance of power issues if you guys are right. And it's nice to know I don't need to up the power if I stick another graphics card in either!

Thanks for that Nice to know that there are still things to re-learn after years of tinkering!
