Ah, but it does matter for distance and textures in GTAIV. With 1GB you will be limited and can't change the viewing distance. With 2GB you can adjust because you can load more textures.

Try running 1GB, and then try running 2GB. There will be a difference.

Ya i am really getting annoyed by all these multi-monitor comments. People saying you only need 2GB if you are running 3 monitors.... WRONG!

And it will continue to be wrong and more wrong as the future of gaming climbs. The viewing distance will also play a huge effect on VRAM in BattleField 3, I am thinking about upgrading before this game comes out for this reason, I also run @ 2560x1600.

I would doubt more vram is only going to help with more than one monitor as others have said.

I certainly look forward to seeing how the Phantom 580 does @2560x1600, but I doubt it will be that far ahead of a reference card.

And remember the more memory a card has the slower those individual memory chips will respond. Think how 2gb DDR3 is faster than 4gb sticks.

I would also rather go for the 2gb. An the 1gb version does not have the BIOS SWITCH

This review shows that for 1920x1200 (with some AA), the framerate gain from 1GB to 2GB Vram is there but not much.

I would still suggest getting the 2GB version because:
a. has almost certainty that it can be unlocked to a 6970
b. current price of 6950 1GB (eg Sapphire $260, XFX $265-275) is practically the same as the price of some 6950 2GB (eg HIS $260, Sapphire $275). Prices taken from Newegg.
