Am I doomed or just going with it?

Hey all, I cannot take it any longer. I was on a forum that was so against Tiger Direct and anything they endorsed. They got on me because I ordered a PSU that is from SysteMax, which owns Ultra and Tiger. I bought the PSU from Tiger. It is the LSP650. I have been scouring the web for bad dirt on Ultra to go with the other forums claims if apocalypse the second I try to start the new computer. failing to find it. Anyone have an Ultra? What is your trust in that brand?

Got nothing against Tigerdirect, but Ultra is indeed pretty crap. You might not think it, since their X3 and X4 units were reviewed so well, but their X2 and LS and LSP series units are almost universally crap. And they make lots of behind the scenes changes; the LSP650 could be one of four units from as many manufacturers (Andyson, Wintech, Yue-Lin, RSY), all of them sucking in different ways. Some variants can't do their rated wattage and explode, others have horribly out of spec ripple, others are just moderately overrated and inefficient. All of them have terrible to mediocre build quality.

Here's a competent review of the 750W Wintech version:

Most reviews you see of Ultra products are people who either don't understand PSUs, or are shills. In fact, that's a general rule for PSU reviews, there are only maybe a dozen people who have the equipment to properly review power supplies, and another couple dozen who can do a proper component level analysis.

Yes, you need to replace it.

Suppliers are suppliers, they all do similar stuff, like pushing stuff they get the most profit from. So long as they actually send you the stuff you pay for, then there's not actually too much to complain about (aside from customer service of course).
I'm with Phaedrus, kill that PSU with fire, high calibre gunfire by preference.
Go buy yourself something decent, like something from the Antec EA, Corsair TX or XFX's black or Pro ranges.
