Best beginners site design software

I have dreamweaver at school and I am not liking it. I also have acess to the MS web design expression web and its ok but is kind of confusing. My dads company wants me to design them a simple website (for money ofc).

What do you guys suggest for me to use to build a website? I can understand very very little of html (took one cs class). I am confused by this .css files. Is there anyway I can make a website with just like drag and drop gui type stuff then just have it feed me the html code for ftp upload?

using a gui to build a website is probably one of the worst ways to build a quality webpage.

Dreamweaver is actually very good.
you could use google sites.

There are tons of website builders that web hosters offer if you have a webhosting plan with them. Like Godaddy offers joomla, drupal, and more.

its for my dads company so they want a preview before they give me access to their domain. I got rapidweaver on my osx which is working great. Dreamweaver is over my head. I just want something simple to fix their very boring and weak site.

your best bet is spend the money for a template. What you are doing, you will never get ahead. You are unaware of what the code is or how to use the program. You are also offering services that you cannot render. Not trying to be mean but i see this all the time and stuff like this is what makes the jobs harder. You need to learn the basics with Notepad++ or BBEdit. After you learn to code with those two, Dreamweaver will be a breeze. I would also assume you do not know CSS as well?? If you are strapped for time, you may also want to pickup Wordpress, you can get free templates, BUT be warned, they are templates and will look like templates.
