As much of an AMD fanboy I am (Say that Yoda would), I would still have to vote for Sandy Bridge. Not only is it a good overclocker, the compatible motherboards also offer compatibility with sli, which you might get with that budget. Yes, AMD mother boards also can be sli hacked, but when you can get it done for you... And of course, gaming wise, that would be that much better.
Hope this helped.

My 2 cents, hyper threading is really pointless for gaming; its a waste of money. So what ever you do, don't get an i7.

I'd go AMD. It's better for the price and it costs less. Look at the one I posted.

Edit - what he said ^. AMD gets my .

Instead of getting 8gigs of RAM, only get 4. You won't need 8 for gaming unless you really plan on doing some intense video editing or encoding. For the hard drive get the Samsung F3, it's faster. I'm not sure how good that power supply is. Since your getting a GTX470 and I'm guessing you plan on getting a second one in the future you only need 750 watts, that's more than enough.

Absolutely true. Plus, you can get a 6850 or a 6950. Unclock the 6850 (I believe you can) to get an exact 6870 or unclock a 6950 to get an almost 6970 (different RAM, etc.).
