G27 vs DFGT

Ok so I've been playing lately a lot of GT5 on the PS3 and GRID and DIRT 2 on my PC, and I'm starting tog et frustrated with the controllers, so as I have some spare money, I was thinking of getting a racing wheel, but I don't know which one should I get.

I was considering the G27 or the Driving Force GT, as both are PS3 and PC compatible and both seem nice, but, I don't know the actual difference between them, and searching online all I found is that the G27 it's harder getting used to, but as I will be starting from scratch and I love driving IRL too I really don't know what to choose, as I feel it will be strange at first as the wheels are actually smaller than the real thing.

Opinions and recommendations? Are any other great options out there, like, Thrustmaster wheels?

Edit: Oh, I didn't say it directly, but I want it to use it both in PC and the PS3.

Thanks in advance people!

There is a reason the G27 is much more expensive than the DFGT - Some of the reasons being: Real leather 11" wheel, realistic shifter (not attached to the steering wheel) with metal shift rod, leather shifting boot, real metal pedals, ect. Everything about the G27 is top notch - If you have the money, this is the one to go for.

Also the new mechanism in the steering wheel (helical gears) make for a much smoother quieter steering wheel compared to any other steering wheel.

I just got a G27 wheel after being so excited about it. Well after trying it out for a while, I would have to say... not worth the money.

Its worth what I paid for it (180 dollars), but I would not pay a cent more than 230 dollars for the wheel. GT5 has driven up wheel prices so much lately. Prices on ebay has gone down slightly (due to the influx of G27's) but expect to pay around 300 dollars, which imho is not worth it.

If you want a wheel with a clutch and H shifter, G27 is the best choice. Sure Fanatec makes better wheels, but I have heard some negative things concerning their quality. They also run upwards of 500 dollars. If you are willing to pay for more authentic and realism, then Fanatec is the way to go.

There is supposedly a soon-to-be released high end Thrustmaster wheel retailing at $500 dollars. The quality is higher than that of the G27, but there is no clutch or H shifter.

The G27 has a pleather like wheel, its stitched and I am very impressed with it. The Helical gears make it very silent. But the wheel feels very small to me
I like the forceback on the G27, but I am kinda disappointed by how much deadzone the wheel has.

The shifter is my biggest complaint on the G27. While it feels less of a toy compared to its G25 counterpart, I still think its too plasticy. It feels nothing like a real shifter.

But the pedals are great, accurate in size and cushioned just right. Its the best thing about it.

I have found that the wiring can get kind of messy and frustrating. But overall I would get it... for the right price.

I'd be buying in Spain where I live, and the G27 I can get for 270€ (about 370$) but I'm not looking for a better wheel or more expensive as it's going to be my first wheel and I don't want to go over the top, specially not knowing if I'm going to give it use to it's full potential.

There's the fanatec wheels, even the lowest end carrera wheel is really good.

The biggest difference between the two wheels (other than glitz and obvious physical stuff) is the force feedback. The DFP/DFGT can't spin the wheel fast enough to keep up with what it's supposed to be doing, this will be most noticeable at 900* of rotation setting and in a decent rally game (opposite lock baby!).

If your not really simracing then I wouldn't bother to get a G27, you're just better off saving the money and getting a DFGT. If you don't mind spending the extra to get a G27 though by all means do it, its a great wheel.

Don't bother with anything from Fanatec, their support on the whole is a joke compared to Logitech.

How important are peddles to you? The G27 peddles are much better than the DFGT. The DFGT is a very good wheel. It has buttons instead of paddles for shifting (I never used the manual shifter). Since its your first wheel you might want to go the DFGT route since they can be had for much less than the G27 these days. If cash is no object I highly recommend the G27, it's amazing.

and Fanatac has horrid customer service. its too bad cuz they make very nice wheels.

Haven't used the DFGT but I bought a G27 a couple weeks ago after not using a racing wheel on a PC since I had some random V3 one on my Pentium 1 machine (Need for Speed II, brah!).

Not sure if Spain has this deal, but if you register a Logitech product, they send you a 20% coupon to your e-mail address which can be used on the wheel.

I usually use mine with iRacing. Without having too much to compare it to, it feels pretty nice. Resistance on each pedal is realistic and correlative of it's IRL counterpart. Only thing annoying me is it's a little hard to get that H shifter into reverse in a tight (wrecking) situation. FFB can get quite strong if you want it to. Feels solid and accurate even for playing for hours.

I've heard of a lot of people having Fanatec wheels fail after a few days of use, only to deal with laughable support.
