GTX 295 blank screen issue [SOLVED]

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I have a GTX 295 - Evga GTX 295 FTW SSC - in my system, well it was in my system I took it out for my 8800GTS after this started. The issue I have is when running Modern Warfare 2, on the second level, with recommended optimal settings. The nvidia drivers crash, and cause a BSOD. It proceeds to do a memory dump, afterwards.

The problem lies in nvkrn.dll. Which causes the BSOD, as it lists the dll that caused it on the BSOD.

I have tried the latest nvidia drivers and they also result in the same issue. Currently running forcware 197.45 in the hopes that it will fix it, but it didn't.

The card is over-clocked from the factory, and the warranty is void - since I got it off ebay. There is no signs of burn in or heat damage on the PCB of the card.

How can I fix this?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S the 8800 GTS 640MB is still kicking and doing the job of playing Modern Warfare 2 on the same settings flawlessly.

P.S.S For power I have a Gigabyte PSU that is 800 Watts, and a q9650 CPU from Intel + 8GB of DDR3 1600Mhz. I hope that doesn't take the power away.

I can run stress tests with the card for hours and the driver doesn't crash. It also never raises above 90 degress C during the tests with furmark. It's just when I play games that it crashes. There is a green light on the back of the card, so..I dont *think* the card has gone bad for a GPU.

Green light means the card is good, but it could be something else, is it only that game that causes it to crash?

No, when I play any game it crashes. I disable SLI on the card and physx and the game plays fine. I would like to be able to use these features tho. As, without them the card is only marginally better then my 8800 GTS.

- I just confirmed it. When multi-GPU rendering is enabled the card video card drivers crash. This either results in a hard freeze, or a BSOD.

Is this a potential driver issue? Or is the card at fault?

Bump for updates on if anyone knows if it is hardware or software related.

how are you doin on stock settings.

i guess watch the temps and play mediocre games and see if that works.

use less ram and see if that causes anything. usually BSOD occur not with GPU'S mostly ram. GPU's would just kill your screen causing you to do a hard restart.

try those options.

another would be start your drivers from scratch

The driver has been started from scratch. As for the heat GPU1 is at 80 C max on load. Where as GPU0 is at 45-60 C max. I think there might be something going on there.

Regarding playing mediocre games, my 8800GTS which still works can play the game at those settings, without any issues.

For the power of the GTX 295, I was able to bump Modern Warfare 2 to it's max settings, minus sync every frame. The screen flickered once during game play, but it returned afterwards. I did this on one GPU.

For stock settings, I could down clock it, BUT I don't know what the settings are..and I don't want to set it too low and under clock the card.

Can someone provide me with the standard GTX 295 or the SSC clock settings?

I managed to solve the problem. I underclocked the video card to the SSC settings not the SSC FTW settings that it came to me clocked at. My guess is the ebay seller overclocked the card and then sold it. Sneaky jerk.
