I think my MB just died...

I'm not exactly sure what happened. One minute I was watching Life in a Day on YouTube, the next my computer just blanks out, but still on. My monitor goes black and loses signal. I tried the manual shut down by holding the power button for about 10 seconds to no avail. At the time, the fans didn't speed up or slow down, as if nothing happened. I did notice that the Ethernet light on my Gigabyte 870A-UD3 MB stopped blinking. My keyboard numlock light also turned off. Everything just seemed frozen. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the system by switching off the PSU. I powered it up again, but the BIOS didn't boot up onto the monitor. The only other glitch was a few weeks ago when my computer refused to acknowledge the Ethernet connection; I ended up reformatting after that, bought an ethernet adapter instead of using the onboard one, but that didn't work either. Then for some reason when I rebooted, the onboard one started working again. Both blips seemed to just happen spontaneously.

I'm not exactly sure how to approach this problem...but any insight would be great! Thanks!

Nothing turns on at all? or does it turn on slightly and shuts off?

I/O controller for the ethernet port took a dive, and probably a few other components. replace it or RMA.

It's very strange because the fans are fine after I booted it up, I checked the GPU fan and it was on, the CPU fan was spinning. Still no light on the ethernet, and no light on my wired keyboard, and still no signal on my monitor. Since I can't see the BIOS at all, I figured it'd either be the MB or the GPU.

I kept everything at stock, so it's a pretty big surprise for me. Before it all went downhill, I had these temps:
CPU: avg. 35 C
GPU: avg. 48 C
HDD: avg. 36 C
Although, I had a particularly weird reading in the 80s all the time at some random part of the MB. After reading about the high temp on OC, I figured it was just a faulty temperature detector.

Is there any way I can confirm that it is the mobo? I've had it since August, well short of the 3 year warranty, but still surprising. Then again, the ethernet problem a few weeks ago does align with the mobo being the issue. I think RMA is my best option, sigh.

Good thing I still got my netbook to watch Life in a Day!

Thanks, for the help everyone! It would still be nice to know what happened to it or if there was something I could have done to prevent it. But looks like I'll be RMAing pretty soon.

I think what sparky said is most likely the case. It's the I/O panel.

But what gets to me -- you can't see any signal on the monitor.

Any way you could try a different gpu??

If you did that would help narrow down your problem

Unfortunately, I can't get a hold of a spare GPU . Reasons why I don't think it could be the GPU just as a note to myself:
- GPU temperatures are pretty consistent
- GPU never had any issues of vertical lines
- power button didn't respond to shutdown
- no stress on the GPU recently

is there a possibility that the I/O panel actually took out your GPU as well? That's what I'm wondering. But it's most likely the motherboard.

I really hope that's not the case, cause Gigabyte would owe me big time. I tried booting it up again today and same conditions except one of the fans was going crazy. I knew it was the GPU fan because I've set it to near 100% before just to know what it sounded like, and from all the fans in my computer, that's the only one that can go that loud and make that noise. The only thing I changed since this all happened was boot up with the power button, and shut down (unfortunately) with the PSU switch.

What the hell is going on...

No random static noises on my speakers even though they're still connected to my MB, not sure if that means anything but might as list everything that I observe.
- DVD drive still opens and closes on command
- all fans running normally except GPU fan

EDIT: The speakers do make an occasional "pop" sound. I haven't turned them off since this entire problem. Even before, they wouldn't make this sound...
