New gaming/hd video rendering build

Thread Starter
I am building a new pc using only old hard drives and case. Before i order these parts i want to get some opinions.

First let me explain what im gonna be doing with it. I was a hard core pc gamer till i started playing xbox 360 about 2 years ago. Im going to be getting back into pc gaming and plan on recording hd game play with fraps and rendering it with Sony Vegas. I am hoping to be able to render hd videos while playing world of warcraft at the same time. I want to over clock to 4ghz so i would like to know if the parts i list will be able to do that. Is the power supply i list overkill? if so what do you suggest. As for ram my current pc has 4gigs i feel that was not enough. Is 8 gigs enough or should i go with the 16. Feel free to make suggestions.

ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 in sli
CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-950TX 950W ATX12V v2.3/EPS12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz
CORSAIR Hydro H70 CWCH70
LG Black Blu-ray Disc Combo SATA Model UH10LS20 LightScribe Support - OEM just a cheap blu ray combo drive

CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 my 8gig option

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 x2 for my 16gig option

I am not dead set on the ram choices. The main thing i want out of this post is what ram i should get. Also am i going overboard with power supply.

my system below is out of date.

Get total of 8gb ( 4x2 gb 1600mhz cas7) ram. XMS3, GSkill ripjaws are my brands of choice. Good quality and can handle a lil bit of oc quite well.

As for the power supply, you can easily go with less (750W) but it is never bad to have that extra headroom for future upgrade and insane amonut of OCs. But I guess a Corsair tx850 would be more than enough for you.

OC capacity of that mobo isnt that great cpmpared to 790fx/890fx powered boards but since you want sli, go for it.

Never buy 2+ cards at the outset, unless they're the best cards on the market and you require that sort of processing power. If you do, you have left yourself with with no room for upgrading without having to sell both cards. This applies especially with GTX 460s, where 3x SLI is not supported.
Buy the best card you can afford (probably a GTX 570), and then save up to SLI in the future.

Thanks for the fast input guys. I went ahead i changed to G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 its cas7 and meets leopold1985's suggestions. Sadly i have made the mistake of buying to sli cards when i should have gotten 1 better one(8600gts sli). I dont think i wanna go down that path again. So ill get 1EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1572-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 instead. Now about the motherboard. My goal is to get a stable 4ghz overclock. Ive read a bit about a sli patch for crossfire motherboards. Would i be better off getting a crossfire board then patching it later if i do get a second 570. If i should go that way any suggestions on board. I can spend no more then 200 on board and i need to plug in 1 pci-e 1x for my hdmi capture card.

im gonna update my current setup so you can see what im upgrading from.

Have you thought about going the SB route?

The new Intel Sandy Bridge processors that were just released. Socket 1155. Socket AM3 is old(er) technology, AMD is planning on a Bulldozer/Bobcat refresh in a couple months.

Intel SB is 4 cores/ 8 threads and performs around 40% higher as my X6 1055T.

So you seriously might look into the 2600k (overclocks 5ghz on air)

^What he said. They're a bit more expensive, but they're worth it. I wouldn't recommend investing in AMD right now, with SB just out and Bulldozer right around the corner. Either wait for Bulldozer, or go SB.
