Overclocking XFX 6870

How high of an Overclock can I achieve on Stock Voltage and how much do I need to raise the volts in order to max out Afterburner at 1000/1250? Thanks!

6870's don't overclock THAT well, I've heard. I would say maybe 1ghz if you're lucky.

I would be extremely happy with 1Ghz/1200+ Memory.

I upped it to 1000/1250 and it held but when I tried to run 3DMark Vantage I received an error which I'm guessing means I need to up the voltage.

hey wait for one of this overclocking gurus to help u, if u are not gentle that girl can be damaged.

IMO try lower clock first and run some test to see if its stable, do that until u find the first unstable clock and then u put a little volt to it. but im just a noob

i have a 6850 and was only able to hit 1Ghz today FINALLY after bumping up to the 6870's voltage. I was able to run heaven np, but vantage and 06 gave me errors. I would start with lowering your memory and trying again. i read some of those maxed at like 1180-1200. also, what are your temps at load?

Read through that a bit. I have my 6870s at 1000/1225 at the moment. The voltage on mine are 1.275 and they don't exceed 65c. XFX is a better card than HIS, so you should be able to pull off a the same OC with less voltage.
Mmhmm, Yes.

I only fooled around with it a little bit last night. I overclocked my 2500K to 4Ghz (I had to take it back down after I tested it since the temps were hitting 70C on the crappy stock cooler) and my 6870 to 950/1150 on Stock Voltage. I had no issues running any of the tests and the performance boost was impressive. I believe my 3DMark 06 numbers jumped something like 6,000-7,000.

I will be getting another to Crossfire soon because I really love these cards. I can't wait to see the performance I can squeeze out of two of these beasts. eek.gif

Yeah me too. I have an Asus 6870 in my downstairs computer and it doesn't do well past 980/1175.
