2.6.38-rc2 anyone?

Thread Starter
So I've been in OSX for the past week or two and finally decided to get back in my linux partition. I was wondering if anybody decided to try out the 2.6.38-rc2 kernel yet? It's supposed to have that 200 line fix in it making the CFS much more responsive. I'm thinking of building it and trying it out. =X

Maybe I'll compile it quick, it won't take me too long

[edit] OOOO They added xz compression, 30% better than regular lzma!

[edit2] Victory! Transparent Hugepage support is apparently part of that speed increase.

Well it boots and compiles nice, I'll stress it tomorrow cause it's a bit late and I've got a crapton of work to do for classes. I'm gonna wait to apply BFS/BFQ till the proper patches come out.

[edit] I lied, hugepage support isn't related to the 200 line patch but apparently that patch is supposed to be in the .38 kernel.

Up and running here too. Have to modify my PKGBUILD as uname reads out 2.6.38-rc2-RC2. No problems with nvidia 260.19.36 either.

I just added the BFQ iosched support:

http://retis.sssup.it/~fabio/linux/bfq/

I completely forgot about it, it's a really nice patch. I usually don't use many patches and might even drop the BFS patch if this turns out to be responsive enough.

[edit] LAME it fails, well now I know. =P

Greetz
Only a few differences showed up from 2.6.36 doing "make oldconfig", maybe 20, and it compiled fine and though I'd read that some 3rd party drivers are problematic, latest NVIDIA 260 installed easily and works fine. However since my 2.6.36 was high performance I really don't feel much difference. I've only been up on it for about an hour and haven't time for benchmarks tonight, but several apps I've run are fine, just not noticeably faster. We shall see on the morrow.

Definitely no performance diffs I can notice when running 4.45 GHz and 2000 MHz 7-7-7-21-28 1T...I'll try multiple firefox and chromium parallel compiles in the background with -j7, see what happens when I use the box then...nvidia 270.18 (including nvidia-utils) builds and installs fine, but does not auto-detect screen resolution...Not an evdev issue, 270.18 likely requires xserver 1.10 wheras I am only on 1.9.2.

My current .37 config (based off of .37) vs. current .38-rc2 config (i.e. .37 vs. .38 change log)...
