GeForce GT 240 any good?

Thread Starter
I have a GeForce GT 240 which I thought was a pretty good card, but looking at the clock speeds I'm starting to wonder... Is it any good? and if not, should I overclock or replace? and what with?

Thanks in advance for any help.

depends on what you do.

for most people, medium to high settings are enough which it can usually pull off.

I used a GT240 to MAX crysis max AA and AF, at a low res tho, but ya up until this morning GT240 played ALL of my games, far cry L4D2 and 1, Fo3 fonv TES:IV, GTA IV you name it i played it on that beast, i have the GDDR5 version and it is now my dedicated physX card.

EDIT- You have 8gb DDR3, X6 1090T BE, and a GT240? please explain to me how that happened?

If it performs fine for you, then you don't need to upgrade.

No you didn't. GT240 can't max Crysis out unless you were at 800x600, and even then I'll bet it couldn't max AA and AF on it.

Otherwise though, yes it is a decent enough budget card. It'll handle low res gaming just fine with decent enough eye candy.

Do you have the GDDR5 version or the GDDR3 version?

The GDDR5 version is about as fast as a 9600GT.

Ummmmmmm, if you dont play games much, then keep the card. It used to be a lower-mid range gaming card once. The thing is that, in GPUs clock speeds come into consideration much much later. The most important thing is the gpu architecture. And needless to say, the gpu architecture has changed quite a lot since the gt240 days. To summarize, if you dont play games...... keep the card. If you do......... replace it with something latest like the GTX560 or if budget permits the GTX580 (and if budget is lower then the cheaper but still a heavy fighter GTX460).

hence me saying LOW RES, and yes it was in fact 800x600, not only was it playable it was very smooth with little to no slowdowns anywhere.

He say that the rest of your rig is very nice, but your GPU is so poor.

Why did you spend money on such a nice processor and ram, and not on your GPU
