I'm slightly concerned...

I was reading some 1055t OC guides to compare my OC results with what other people were getting. I came across a post that said MSI's 790 and 890 chipset boards were... well... catching fire? Through further reading I learned that it was due to some kind of power issue with the 4+1 doohickeys (I have no idea what there called ) and X6 CPU's. Other posts mentioned MSI's mosfets were the issue (maybe the same issue?).

Anyway... Im curious as to how big a risk it would be to OC on this board. Am I going to blow anything up? Has MSI fixed the problem on more recently released boards of the same model?

As an afterthought... The NH-D14 has component cooling from the bottom bit of the middle fan sticking out, would this mitigate the risk at all?

Thanks for any replies, im eager to get OC'ing but not at the risk of blowing my motherboard. I'd also really like to justify owning the NH-D14, i'm not one to fapfap to 5C idle temps at stock speeeds

I am with you on that. I know my MSI board isnt the best out there, but far cry from the worse. It was a good price honestly. I like, I wish I had waited and looked at more boards closer. Eh, oh well.

When the new ones come out will just slap this chip in it, and maybe go to water. I was wondering how does the NH-D14 compair with the CM Hyper 212.

I was getting ~40C with a 4Ghz OC @ 1.475 Vcore on the NH-D14. I'd post some screens but I'm not going near prime95 until I know if i'm safe with this OC or not.

That was one of the threads I came across. Until my board does give me problems I can't denounce it, but i'm definetely not content with having to be paranoid about owning an MSI product.

The tower heatsink makes it worse because the VRMs are not getting cooled whatsoever. Despite mosfet heatsinks a lot of MSI 4+1 boards can and will blow up with 125W processors both at stock and overclocked. I've been collecting the horror stories, if you like I could post them.

MSI 4+1 boards will only ever be good for 125W processors if 1. slightly undervolted 2. stock cooler 3. stock speed. Anything edging away from that and I'd consider you on your own.

I read quite a bit into that thread.

As I said before, I can't denounce MSI until I actually have problems. It's unfortunate that you were dealt a bad hand from MSI, I however have no issues with them yet.

i read somewhere this was from poo heatsink-to-VRM contact....makes sense honestly. cant let VRM's go unsinked at 1.5v...duh

Ultimately, this is what I intend to do. As for right now I'm stuck with what I've got.
